I used these no hops on my 10 bolt and never reinstalled them on my 12 bolt in the car. They were used for two years. I'd like to get $125 plus shipping. TA gets $175. There was no cutting or grinding done on these to get them to fit.
Please pardon my ignorance Paul but.... are those the fix for a hopping rear end once the tires start spinning? I had that issue with mine when it was on the road. have a 12 bolt 69 chevy in my 71 GS.
Yes, these bars help address the wheel hop as well as act as a traction aid at the track when you launch.
Do these bars have any "negative" effect on the ride/handling/noise level when just cruising on the street? What is required to install them? Any drilling/cutting necessary on the rear axle center housing? I have a '70 Skylark, stock rear suspension, boxed lower control arms, non-original 12-bolt (Olds) axle. Thanks.
There's no negative effect driving on the street with them. To install them, you'll need to remove the upper bushings in the housing and install the spacer provided. The upper control arms will them be bolted to the top of these bars. You will also have to drill a hole through the webbing of the rear end housing on each side for the bolt shown.
Hi Paul, I am not in line for the parts so pardon the side bar here. I am curious what you attribute the cause of wheel hop to while the 10 bolt was in place as I am to assume was remedied otherwise when the 12 bolt was swapped in? Mark
Mark, These were installed on the 10 bolt to help with the launches at the track. When I swapped the 12 bolt in, I also swapped in Metco adjustable uppers and left these bars on the rear end. I adjusted the Metco's to get the pinion angle where I wanted it and never took these off the other rear, out of laziness. Some guys run these and the adjustable uppers together. These did help with the wheel hop on the stock setup. So did the adj. uppers. Two different solutions to the same problem.
I have those on my 11 seconds GS,with street legal tires so far my short time goes to the low 60's to the high 50's.You do have to use air bags, with around 25pds of air to the right side and around 10pds on the left. This system is good to the high ten's,so Paul you should sell that with no problem.BrunoD.
