TA-Perf (Schneider?) Cams are of any quality?

This cam might very well be ground by Crower. The base circle is larger than in the previous 212 cam (Schneider), as there are virtually no threads showing from the rocker adjustment screws on the pushrod side. The previous cam would have actually benefitted from slightly longer pushrods, as there were several threads exposed under the rockers.

Ya, I used to be under the impression that Buick factory machining was better than other brands... then I watched skeptically as Ron put his BHJ dowel pin truing plate on an NOS block.

Both dowel pins need to move to be located correctly.

Every motor that has left TSP has had that process done, and oversize stepped dowel pins installed, since that day, about 6 years and 40ish motors ago..

The lifter bore deal is just yet another reason that if your going to try and make serious power, you need to step up to a Tomahawk block.

A local machine shop friend claims that after 30 years of engine building, MOPAR had the worst factory machining out of the 60’s and 70’s iron. He’s used the dowel align once, on a supercharged 440/Tremec set-up, after the trans had an input bearing failure. His opinion was Tremec was borderline junk anyway, but the dowel align fixed it.

Anyone contemplating this procedure on a BBB, keep in mind that the BHJ stepped dowels are much longer than factory ones, and have very little chamfer. This makes for a miserable install if the trans is still in the car.
