What is going on? Why does my power steering pump belt rub now? What the heck? I'm not happy with this.

Mine did the exact same thing and as I've heard it mentioned before its an on going issue with 1970 crank/ps pulley sets. I clearanced the "fin" that it rubbed on but can't do anything about the contact with the body. Short of sourcing a 71+ crank pulley and p/s pump pulley set I think we're all sol.

Thanks for the reply. Mine seems to rub more on the reservoir bulge. If I run it on the other side of the alternator belt it will turn too fast or not?

Are the 71 plus sets common, can I get a 2 groove crank pulley as well?

I've got a 71 non AC crank/water pump pulley set if you need one crank pulley is pitted but serviceable

Hugger very interested. Why does the 71+ not rub? Is it a smaller diameter? Would I also need to change the ps pump location?

If you have the short style TA pump 71 pulleys will be of no help, do you have the short or long pump?

It looks like a power steering pump pulley 1/2" diameter smaller would solve the problem.

Maybe the adjustment slot length can be increased? I hope this water pump works as advertised. It is a very nice assembly and very pretty.

I had the same problem, I just ground a little clearance in the housing.

I talked to Mike about it in BG, he already knew about the problem.

Thanks Keith. Is there other options...later year bracket and pump for the short water pump maybe, anyone?

Wow. Good to know. I was going to order a pump for my '70 non air w/PS. I'll wait and see if there is resolution.

Ok. I'm hoping 0.2" deeper adjustment slots and a two size smaller belt will do the job. The next issue is the pump hits the alum bracket at the same time, so ill have to bend down the pump sheet metal seam so I'll get the extra 1/4". Plan is to take it to my machine so I don't cobble the bracket up. Stay tuned.

Is the older pump style narrower from the front. Anyone know the correct NAPA number as I may be in need shortly.

Ok. Extended the slots 0.180" and benched the seam of the pump to get it all in as close as possible. Bought a belt that fit only with the pulley off, slid the pulley on. Just a kiss off the bottom pump and we seem good to go.

You guys got the wrong water pump plain and simple. No way it should rub. 71-72 cars with AC and heavy duty cooling require the long pump. I noticed T/A catalog was wrong in the past. It listed short. Always save an old pump you know is correct to compare. Had same problem with 442' s years ago.

What year and part numbers are on your Pullies?

Mine is a 1969 and the motors a 1970. All my pulleys are about the same but for AC. I want to run the PS pump nearest the engine on the small inner crank pulley groove.
