I have a 71 and a 72 gs 455 convertibles both have TA cams I have been told. the 71 is mild and I have got an orignal quadrajet that I rebuilt and is one the GS. The 72 is more extream with solid lifters & roller rocker arm set up.It has a big Holly on it.
The question is what is the difference between the 455 Quadrajet and the stage 1 Quadrajet. I know the stage 1 uses AU metering rods on the secondary & 42b on the primary but is there any other differencies in the jetting. Also would the 455 Quad with the stage 1 set up be enough for the 72. I know it is a wild quess with out knowing for sure the cam specifications. Any advice apprieciated. Also is there any way to see if the jetting is near right other than holding the rpm @2500 & slightly covering the air horn to see if the rpm increases?
I also noticed that when setting the timing that there 2 marks on the balancer if I remember correctly the upper mark that is approx 10 degrees ahead of the lower was for magnetic pickup making the lower one to use for timing with a light? What would be the best setting for the 455?
    Thanks, Woody45
