I merged the Ted Harbit threads...... :Comp:

Glad to hear he is doing OK, the more details that come out, the more it appears lady luck is a Studebaker driver......

I just talked to Ted on the phone. He is doing better, and has good spirits. They are talking about putting the Chicken Hawk in a museum. I think that sounds like a good idea. :TU:

    Best wishes for Ted.

I said hello to him last year, out of the blue, at the little diner near the Edmore Inn on Thursday evening. I felt he deserved the respect, since he is one of our fellow racers with far more experience than anyone else. What a nice guy. He took a moment to talk to me and learn who I was and what I drive.

I think Ted is the only other guy at the PSMCDR who has a tow vehicle older than mine.

Ted is one of the true gentlemen of the sport. After just meeting him and knowing him for 10 seconds, Ted makes you feel like he has known you for ages.

Ted is also a True Legend in our small PSMCDR/FAST circle. How many guys do we know that are members of the NHRA Hall of Fame??

We wish Ted a speedy recovery and I hope we get to see him at this year's PSMCDR.

    Hello!

What a beautiful day in Indiana...rain and all

Mom and Daddy just got home about ten minutes ago. Both are tired. Mom and I got home after 11pm last night and their doorbell malfunctioned through the night - no sleep after 3am. Daddy has had "hospital sleep" since Saturday, of course. They want some alone time together and time to just rest for a week or so. I'm going to bring the girls to visit for maybe a 1/2 hour or so in a few days for Grandpa to get some cuddles that he's been requesting while they've been in school, but that's it. I'm eager to see how he feels after a few weeks. They say it will take a few months, but he'll feel better then worse, etc. He's finding new bruises every day.

I made a Flip video of him talking in the hospital. My husband is on-call tonight, but I'll have him upload it tomorrow on this site. I left another update two days ago on this site. Any or all three updates may be copied to the SDC site as well.

There were posts about his birthday and the Teacher's Pet, I believe. His birthday was two days prior to the accident - 74yo on May 7th. The Teacher's Pet is at Luke Barne's home in Elwood, IN. We do have plenty of pictures. Sometime you'll have to hear all the stories about how Daddy found the Chicken Hawk, why, with whom. Any story you don't know you can get from a first hand experience by Uncle Fred. ("Frantic Fred" Robinson. He isn't Daddy's brother, but best friend. He's like my second dad...I was blessed not just once, but twice.) He was with him when they first went hunting down a racing Stude to replace the Teacher's Pet in South Bend. Some of it is in magazine articles, but the live version has more details that will crack you up.

For the record, the talented gentleman who made his roll cage called Uncle Fred the other day. Uncle Fred extended our thanks, but we have much more thanking to do. The only other loose end is finding out who Daddy was racing. Since the first day in the hospital, he and Mom have been wanting to reach out to him. We learned that his windshield may have been hit from debris (15 different eye-witness accounts). The gentleman who owns the track told Dad to not think about it at all and the name would be given to him later when it's more appropriate. We are so grateful that no one was hurt. I know our family wouldn't have been able to live with that.

Again, THANK YOU! Your prayers have been powerful and he is just doing fantastic. If I could hug each one of you, I would. No offense, but I hope I don't need to post on here for a good 25 years about anything else regarding his health! I figure he should retire from racing by 99. Although, I know he'll fight me on it.

    God Bless,

    Hi People,

I got home about noon today (Friday). Hurts too much to type much now but just wanted you to know I'm home. I'll post more in a few days when I feel more like it.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, cards, phone calls, emails (all 229 of them!), etc. Very very much appreciated and after seeing the car I realize just how lucky I was.

    Thanks to everyone.

    Ted

glad you are home and feeling better ! although i am sure your still pretty sore ,i saw your wreck you really scared me very glad to see your slowly getting better i only wish i could say the same for your car i know it had to mean a lot to you with its history and all . for the record , i know the guy you were racing in the other lane and want to let you know he was the first person to your aid. i saw this my self. he stopped his car immediately unbuckled and ran in a dead sprint to your car to try to help you. just goes to show there are a lot of good people in our great sport! just thought you might want to know that. get some rest and get well soon

    Ted,

Glad you're back home, nothing beats that in times like this.

Sorry about the Chicken Hawk. Don't know if I ever told you, but I ran up against a 51 Stude at Milan in 1965 one time, and the way it ran away from me, pretty sure it was you.

Any thoughts of building a tribute car to put in the NHRA museum? Doesn't even have to run....you and it surely earned its place there.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers, cards, emails, etc. After a month I am getting a little better each day. I hope to see you at Martin in a couple weeks. If not, definitely at Stanton in September.

I'm the world's worst at remembering names (maybe age has something to do with that), so forgive me when I don't remember your names.

Again, thank you. It meant a lot to Mary Ann and me.
