Many Pure Stockers here have followed the adventures of Studebaker's Living Legend, Ted Harbit, and his little red 1963 Studebaker Lark Custom 2-door, The Stude Tomato.

The car's newly-built R3 engine (not the R2 with which it was manufactured and has run in years past) was Certified Stock by Dan Jensen and Bob Boden following Ted's voluntary tear-down Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Dan's shop in Portland MI.

Freshly reassembled and with zero 1/4-mile runs on it, Ted & The Tomato posted a best of 12.686 and 112.07 on Pure Stock Drags practice day Friday, September 17th.

Ted was sure there was more in it, and that he could get it into the 12.40s with additional practice.

After the rained-out Pure Stock shootouts this year, we took The Tomato back home to Ted's and parked it in his garage. There it sat, untouched and unmoved, until Wednesday afternoon, September 29th. Then, he got it out and took it to The Muncie Dragway, his home and favorite strip, for Muncie's Test & Tune night that evening.

And here's the rest of the story:

Looking forward to the first Studebaker in the 11's.

Put some more stickum on the blower belts and on the track.

    Great job Ted. :TU:

That's hauling!!  Then consider the lack of aerodynamics too!! The Stude Tomato ain't no svelte and slippery sportscar like a Corvette!!

Wish we could get that kind of track prep at Mid-Michigan........

I hope they haven't relied on too much stickum. :Do No:

The race organizers had tasked me with boost monitoring on supercharged entries. The task is complete.
