I put a th 350 in my 67 special and didnt hook up the kickdown. I just down shift for passing gear i have been told that this will cause damage to the tranny because the shift points will always be changing. Is this true the tranny shop never mentioned this and they gave me a 24 month warrenty. If this is so any ideas on seting it up the 67 dose'nt have a spot on the fire wall for the cable or the correct gas pedel linkage?

Your transmission will be fine. Turbo 350's shift points are controlled by a vacuum modulator. That cable only controls when it downshifts. I have been running a Turbo 350 without the cable for half a year now and have had no problems whatsoever. Besides, manual downshifts are fun! Lots of people can bark the tires on an upshift, but with a 350, you can bark em on the downshift, too!

    Hope this helps,

The detent cable has some influence on shift points and feel. I don't think it will hurt it to do without it, but I would find a way to hook it up. The cable should reach the end of it's travel as you reach WOT. I don't care what anyone says, a car is more consistent and faster when the transmission is set up to shift where it should and everything is hands free. Shifting it yourself is fun, but it makes the car slower and less consistent.

True. A lesson I learned while at the strip with my Charger. I had the mindset that if I shifted it manually I could get better performance and speed. Come to find out, when i let it do the shifting it performed much more consistant and quicker.

Granted, if you install a performance shift kit and know exactly when the best shift points are for peak torque and horsepower then manually shifting will be a benefit. If you do so, I would invest in a tack with a shift light.

    That's my 2-cents.

Or you could install a governor and vacuum modulator recalibration kit to get the shift points right where you want them :Brow:

    Slightly off topic.
