Ok my stock trans shifts perfect in forward but revere fine cold hot very show to go in fine on level solid ground but has problems on soft ground ! fluid / filter done a while back old fluid was not bad just dark red still holding red now is there an additive ? its a driver 70 skylark I don't beat on it Thank you
Reverse band worn, or servo not working. (Band not holding the drum adequately) But once you go in (to an automatic), might as well do everything right rather than do it twice.
You can try a bottle of this, it may buy you 6-8 months and then have the trans rebuilt: https://lucasoil.com/products/problem-solvers-utility/lucas-transmission-fix
I bought a 71 GS 350 conv for cheap that had no reverse. Drove it and even raced it a few times. Was a bit of a challenge trying to avoid getting in a situation where reverse was needed.
Thanks guys for your input ok I know of Lucas it worked great in a ford trans that would not go unless you manually shifted from low until it got hot and if the grade was steep it would slip cold but hot fine by the end of 9 summers ( it was a beach convertible for 3 months ) it stayed working till the car was sold changed 2 QUs. every other summer 1 Lucas & 1 reg. at the end before sale it felt tighter of cost no beating on it ! lol. smooth highway driving Yes this is a great product as well as for eng. & steering versions its a shame GM like ford & Chrysler they had bands to adjust .
