I have a 64 TH400 from a 64 Riv if you want but its in KANSAS!! had 82000 miles on it when it was parked in 78 I dont have a converter but $50 for it is cheap
Mike , The trannie sounds great but we'll have to fiqure out pickup ... Geeze Mike I can't even guess that one or even say it .ou: Not a clue , We are outside of Cedar Rapids . p p
I havent bought it yet but i want to buy a rotiserri for doing BUICKS and chevys anyway They have them there and I want one but have to get thru other items first. Whats the time zone on the trans??
As a back up...I have several '65-6. These are with the switch pitch convertors. You don't want a '67 as that is the BOP mounting pattern. I've never had any issues with these as to needing rebuild/repairs in several big Buicks. I'm in the Mpls area-
Just an FYI, I've heard the '64 ST400 is an unusual, unique animal with some less-than-desirable traits, and fixed-pitch, too. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?p=521243 Devon
Geeze , I didn't know it was going to be this much fun .. Ok it looks like a 64 was a one year only trannie , and 65 and 66 may be the way to go . And 67 is out ... ? Anyone on here chime in if you have bolted a 400 to a 425 Nailhead . I don't wanna do this more than once ... Thanx ,,,,,
Bruce, I have an AMCO rebuild 400 longshaft with around 5000 miles on it out of a 72 lesabre up here in Chicago for $250 if the other trans doesn't work out. Tony
Hi Tony , I believe so far that 65 and 66 TH 400 are the two that I need to bolt up to a 425 Nailhead . Or lets say I hear from others that those two years are what I need to look for . Hoping a Nailhead Guru will chime in and set me straight ... p
HOW about a 400 out of a66 /401 ive one that is complete w drive shaft in tinley park ???? also have frame and engine mounts flywheel ,,,fear sup pan etc pete 708 638 4668
Bruce, you want a '65 or '66. They have the 1-2-D-N-R-P pattern, and sp converter. '64's have a L-D-N-R-P pattern (no 2nd), and a std converter. I'm pretty sure all were short-tails, with the possible exception of the Electra. Some years had a different diameter driveshaft yoke. So try to get the yoke with it if possible! For an A-body, you need to more the crossmember back. For a floor shifter, the '67 GS version is the correct one to use. P.S. only the 65-66 Skylark GS used the 2 speed ST300 with a Nailhead bolt pattern.
Thank you Everyone for your help and input on the trans . p p It looks like JW has one on the bench getting ready for a build up ! Thanx everyone ! :3gears: p :3gears:
