    Got this problem:
455 taken out ....got another crankshaft...Transmission stayed under the car.
Last night the 455 went back in and the transmission was bolted to the 455. Convertor moved free till the bolts were tightened...
Only by loosen the bolts just a bit the convertor could be moved freely again..... so now I'm unable to bolt the flexplate to the convertor.

Flexplate is bolted in the right way.... convertor fits in the tranny like it should (pump)

What am I doing wrong here??

it sounds like the converter isn't all the way in. when the converter is seated all the way the mounting lugs on the conveter should be 1 inch in from the bellhousing on the trans.

Dave, thanks for the reply, but I'm quite sure the convertor is all the in. Still I will have a look at that.....when the engine is out again :af:
    Any more suggestions?

was it a used crank? is it possible there is a pilot bearing in the back of the crank? or maybe just a burr or something keeping the pilot of the torque conveter from spinning?

Yes...it is a used crank.... so that could be a possibility..... will check that tomorrow morning when I have the engine out (again.... :af: )
    Cheers

Solved.... it turned out to be just a little bit of surface rust.... just enough to get the problem.....small piece of sandpaper solved the problem.
    Thanks for replies!!
