recently my dad and I have been working on our 1967 Gs 400 project that has been damaged by a flood in december. When we drained the tranny we wanted to replace the filter and found that there was a diffrent filter than there was suppossed to be in a th-400 we looked into it and the original filter is for a 425 . This is a car that is supposed to be #'s matching car. The guy I bought it off of is semi local and he bought it from the origninal owner... im curently trying to find the vin to verify any of this. Do you guys think it might be possible that my 67 Gs 400 came from the factory with a th-425? we know that the tranny hasn't been swapped recently so if it happened at all it must have happened when it was newer if at all. :Do No: I know that these came in some caddy's and olds

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

VIN is located on the driver's side next to the electrical plug. Easy to find if yours is original or not.

My memory may be wrong, but I thought a 425 was a used in FWD Eldorado/Toronado's.

Early TH400's used a different filter than later model ones. They had the same shape trans pan, but the dimples in the bottom of the pan was different.

    This is the early type

This is extremely helpfull because that was the case.. it was the the early th400 filter. For some reason when I called in and gave a part number for the filter they said it was for a th425.

The 425 FWD trans was built at the same location (Willow Run Hydra-matic) and many of the parts are the same. It basically is a 400 tranny with the tailshaft redirected. The build lines were no more than 50 feet apart.
