I just picked up an 85 regal w/ 455 and th350 and want to install a th400. I know i saw a post on here someplace on what i would need and how to do it. Anyone know the post and could get me the link or tell me. If memory serves, it wasnt a hard swap. thanks for the help upfront, take care, john.
John, You'll need a BOP short shaft 400.. It should be an easy swap. You'll need a 400 yoke, and you'll have to modify the driveshaft. I think the G bodies should accept the downshift switch that mounts to the gas pedal. I think they are already wired for the switch. You'll have to move the crossmember back, and possibly get a different mount. Try doing a search on THM400 swap.
You can drop a 400 right in but you'll need a dual exhaust crossmember. The stock one will work but the exhaust will be low. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=909&prmenbr=361
Hey there, I sold John this Regal and I told him I have a crossmember for it but I want to be sure it works before I send it to him. The crossmember is from a GN w/ a 200-4r. The Regal has two mounts on the drivers side. When I had the 200-4r in the car, very briefly, it used the rear mount. Will the 400 use the same crossmember and mount?
TH200-4R's and TH400's share the same crossmember but different driveshafts. The crossmember however doesn't allow for the use of a true dual exhauste so you'd need to go to www.crossmembers.com for one that would.
