my trans has the locating srcew fo the center support. are you supposed to leave it in after installing the retaining bolt or take it out. the book i have says to take it out :Do No: . but in another part of the book it looks like its left in. when i took the trans apart it was left in. thanks, dave

Both my '67 Chassis Manual and Ron Sessions' "How to Work With & Modify the TH400" say explicitly to REMOVE the locating screw after torquing the support bolt to 20-25 ft/lbs.

I suppose the danger would be the potential of it falling out. If it stayed put everything should be fine; just make sure it's taken out this time around.

FYI the Sessions book also recommends thread locking compound on the retaining bolt.

i'm confused now. i got the ron sessions book. in the disassembly section it says some '68 and earlier models have an additional center support to case fastener which preloads the center-support lugs against the case. if your trans has one remove it now. this was directions on removing the center support. in the assembly section it say to tighten it then the retaining bolt then remove the locating screw. if its supposed to be removed why would you be taking it out when disassembling :Do No: can anyone clarify this please. thanks, dave
