Six GS's were burning up the pavement again on Saturday nite. the group included Denny & Renee Moore, Gary & Sandy Paine, Doug & Connie Paine, Steve & Leanne Gray& yours truly. It was a Jet Truck & Train nite so there were alot of spectators. The crowd really got into the Buicks as we were cheered on when passing by the stands. I think we were as entertaining as the jet trucks! We had a little bad luck in the eliminations, Leanne was the only one left after the first round. Well, we all bought back in for a second chance which did not help most of us except Gary "THE FORCE" Paine. In the eliminations, Leanne shoed the T flawlessly cutting great lights & running her number. on her semi final run, her competition (chivvy) choked & sputtered & Leanne treed him but didn't lift in time & brokeout running mid 11's. "OLD FAITHFUL" GREAT SCAT took out an 8 second Mopard to race a Ferd in the finals. Another repeat from 2 weeks ago, Gary kills the tree & Scat ran the nos. again claiming victory. Renee has some action shots from last night that i'm sure will be posted. Randy

    welp

We had a great time even if Denny broke out in the first round (better than redlighting right Doug?:)) My car had its best 60 ft time on the worn out drag radials with a 1.67, can't complain about breaking out in that case. Gee, I can't wait for him to get his OWN car back so I can race MY car again.

Here's some pictures from last nights racing.:Brow:

Here's something that we try to avoid at all costs while at the track! Working on it! Randy....I'm not posting the other picture being that this is family orientated board and I don't wanna get nasty PM's from the mods  :Brow:

All in all it was a great night for racing. Nice cool air errrrr I should say, nice COLD air (which could account for most of us breaking out). Thanks Gary for making us all stay that late and congrats on another notch in your racing buckle :)

Bridge is about 15-16 years old.thompson is the oldest continually running dragstrip in ohio, est.in 1958.They've done a lot of work on it in the last 5 years, raised the shut off area 35ft!its now nearly level, state of the art timing, paved and grass pits, many other amenities.

We had a great time racing with Buick friends. Thompson is the furthest track for us but well worth the drive to be with folks you like to race with. It was an interesting experience having people react to the Buicks the way they did...made it all the more enjoyable. I was especially glad the steel poles that were driven in the ground at the end of the track were removed. That would have been a bad scene in the T. By the way...thanks Gary for lending the battery...we couldn't have run the GS otherwise. We bought a new one today. Thanks Renee for the pictures. I like the one of Courtney the best...she's a cutie.

WOW! Sounds like you guys/gals had some fun.

I took my car out Friday finally for the first time......so I thought. I borrowed a trailer, and drove all the way out to Norwalk with Lon Bauer to discover that "Blue Suede Cruise" had rented the entire place, BUT NO RACING OF ANY KIND! Arrghhhhhhh.

So we went over to Dragway 42. Car was running 12.0's all night with horrible traction. I had the slicks down to 12 pounds and Lon said I was still spinning horribly off the line launching at only 1200 rpm's or so. I guess that 3 feet they spray down with VHT wasn't quite enough.

It was still nice to get out and smell the rubber though. One of these days I'll get out to a track that's prepped decent and hopefully get off a few good runs.

    It was fun!!!

Win or lose, i sure had fun as usual!!! I set a 60' record too...1.39 with a 10.5'' tire. The money i spent at the chassis shop was well worth it. It was great that Steve & Leanne made the trek to Thompson & stayed till 12:am! Leanne brought fabulous home-cooked food for everyone to enjoy. Thanks! Randy:3gears:

Have to agree with everyone else on this one, it was a great time yesterday. It was nice to see 6 buicks out running together. Wish everyone could have went a few more rounds.
As far as Renee's car goes, that car is hard to take any rounds untill we get the traction issues worked out.
Everyone else seemed to be running ok and having a great time. We need to do this again and soon.

    Thompson again

How about doin it again on june 27th,its a sunday and the tracvk is available for test and tune all day, starting at 9:00am.tha penn-ohio chapter is hopefully going to be there in force. Its $15 to race all day,if you want theres a gamblers race in the afternoon. This day is sponcered by the Cleveland Rock-n rollers.its a local car club that does this 3 times a year, they get a great turnout each time and last year had a prize for the 50/50 raffel over 4500!
the club has members with all types of vehicles from 60's muscle cars to street rods to high tech cars, all a great bunch of people.theres also an award for the car club that has the most members there.Doug and I will be there early to rope off a large area for the buick faithful so bring em on out and enjoy a nice day of racin and good times. We generally only have the guys around here show up and we sure get the attention, most of the spectators don't know a GS from a GSX or Skylark custom, let alone how quick they run. Then when one our members "toast" a trailer brung chivvy with open exhaust, with a muffler equipped ,street driver, show quality car they seem to gather around to see what hell hath wrought.Seeing 10 or 9 sec GS's is another matter all together, sheer disbelief.I guess its an education.
So, be there,we'll keep the beverages chilled and the hot dogs warm.

    Renee, great picture's.
Makes Beth and I want to move to Ohio.
Is better Drag Strips a valid reason
    for moving the family?
I'm saving that pic of Gary and Doug at the tree. BTW who came out on top in that one?

    Thanks for the picture's

I remember going over that hill! First few times I raced there I went off with a flagman. They then went to a traffic light hanging up in the air. Left Ohio before they installed a tree.

Dana, with all the great tracks that we have in OHIO, I say it's worth the move :) There's Thompson, Quaker City, Norwalk, Dragway 42 all within 2.5 hours from our house. Works great for us :)
The only problem with having 6 Buicks at the track at the same time is keeping them far away enough from each other during eliminations. The last thing we want to happen is have to race each other in the first couple rounds.
I can't remember who came out on top with Gary and Doug because it was time trials, everyone was right behind each other in the staging lanes, and I was trying to get at least one good picture of everyone.
We will be in Thompson again on the 27th and I'll definately have my camera with me. Everyone that lives semi close should try and be there and lets gang up on all the other cars for a change :)
We are also talking about getting a bunch of people together to head over to PA and hit the track at Keystone. If anyone else is interested just let me know and we will set a date to get together and wow 'em in PA. Gee, I love summer :)
