I agree.... I have bought a lot from them over the years... no issues whatsoever... I hate to see members have problems with any vendor.... i remember 20 years ago when we had almost no repop parts and limited vendors... just glad we have some choices today..
I've only bought ONE thing from TPP, a rear spoiler, and it was cracked on the end BEFORE they primed it. (Primer was inside the crack...) The gaskets (foam rubber) didn't even come close to fitting; The hardware was mixed sizes; The pedestals weren't off in height (requiring build-up to fit). And they wanted me to pay freight both ways for return and replacement (oversize freight times three!!!). Attempting to deal with them was a ROYAL PITA!!! Needless to say, that was the ONLY time that I bought from TPP. NEVER AGAIN!!!
I think what ALL vendors need to do is actually LOOK at the part that they are shipping. A lot of parts are prepackaged at other facilities, then either shipped to a warehouse for further shipping,or shipped directly. I recently gave specific instructions to inspect an item before it was shipped, and also specified exactly how to package and ship it,and that is wherebthe gig was up. The person on the phone confirmed what I figured, and claimed that they had no way of checking it. These companies have gotten too big for their britches.
I agree with Brian. About ten years ago I had a customer who needed a Fel Pro gasket so I ordered it. Fel Pro shipped the wrong part, so I called and told them about the error and they tried again. Two days later, same wrong gasket a second time. Customer less than amused, I called them, explained that their bin must have the wrong label or parts in it, asked for a human to pull it and verify the number before shipping, and I needed it next day air because of the time wasted. They agreed and paid next day air freight to ship the same wrong gasket a third time. Patrick
I have ordered quite a few things from them over the years. Some good and some not so good regarding quality issues with the parts, dealing with them over the phone was never a good experience when quality was a concern . I recently ordered quite a few parts from Todd at die cast and had a much better experience. He has hands on knowledge on many off the TPP items . No issues with any of the parts I ordered from die cast
My experience with TPP was lousy customer service and an unwillingness to consider even the possibility that they shipped a defective part. i will do all i can to avoid doing biz with them. i am making the plastic part on my own 3d printer.
I have used many companies. The Parts Place is pretty sketchy on service and I would never order a part from them until someone I trust has evaluated it. I have a reproduction fan shroud story that I had to stop telling because it makes my face get all red. I ended up just putting it on a car I sold. Better than no fan shroud is the gist of the story. I have had a good experience with Inline Tube 95% of the time but Classic Tube is better. Sometimes these companies are the only one making something or so darn cheap you roll the dice. I have learned through trial and error that most reproduction and aftermarket parts are just plain junk. I usually just save my money and buy original GM parts where I can. Much less swearing but much more money. I will add my two cents about Todd at Diecast in Wisconsin. Bought hardware and bits that are always right and quickly shipped. Plus he knows stuff about the stuff I am buying.
Jim, Did you send them the pics of that tube?... I assume that is the Stage 1 fuel line, pump to carb? I have used that very line from TPP many times, it does not look like that... I agree that someone else hacked that up, and sent it back, and then it got sent to you. I know you resolved it by getting the CC processor to do a charge back, but I am wondering if they actually saw that picture, and still said it was a "good part' I know Joe personally, and he would not say that.. can't say that some of his guys might not.. I hate to see anyone who is willing to make resto parts for our cars bashed.. because there are so few of them out there. Having been in that business running a busy shop for a decade, I can tell you for sure that "perfect" resto or NOS parts are hard to come by. Most NOS stuff I saw (thousands of parts), I considered "factory seconds".. Not always, but more often than not. Once you get past the glamor of the dusty old GM box, and inspect the part, the flaws are typically evident. Guys who pay big bucks for these parts, often don't get past the box phase.. Being a third party arbitrator on these parts gives one a different perspective.. Not my part, not my money, not my car, so I can give you a unbiased opinion of the part. JW
Inline is no better- http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...ve-or-normal-for-a-repro.239465/#post-1954931 I quit buying pre made lines. My hand bender and flaring tool makes a 100% better line than thier multi million dollar equipment
Yes Jim. I sent them pictures. The guy I talked to said he checked the others they had in stock and they were all the same. In the end, my credit card paid them, and I am stuck with a crappy part I cannot use from The Parts Place.
Therefore, I have decided to make it my personal mission to cost them as much business as I possibly can. I have it hung in my shop to remind me every day. When all they had to do was send a call tag for the part and pay return shipping and everything would have been fine.
Jim, If you know Joe personally and if you like him, you may want to let him know he has an unhappy customer, and that he may need to make it right. Then we can see how good he is at handling issues and problem solving. You up for it?
