Upgrade the engine and Brian will have some competition!! :beers2: http://www.jakesgeneralstore.com/Carpages/FirstEdsel/The First Edsel.htm
Interesting commentary from the Edsel guru... As an aside, although Henry Ford did a good job about keeping many "first of's" (ie, the first Ford V8, the First 1940 Ford, the first Mercury, etc) many were sold to the general public. For example, the first Ford Mustang, a white 64&1/2 Convertible, was sold to a dentist in Nova Scotia. Is is, however, now back and on display at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. FWIW - :Smarty:
I can hear the announcer trying to explain to the crowd what that is! I think there was a 361 4 bbl available for them in 58 maybe even a 368. Memory is not workin' tonite.
Here's the Edsel performance option. .................................................................... E-475 V8 (475 is the torque rating) Standard for Citation & Corsair 410 cid (6.7 litre) (430 Lincoln derivitave) 345 hp @4600 rpm 475 ft-lb Torque @2600 rpm 10.5:1 Compression Ratio 4.2031 x 3.703 Bore/Stroke 4-bbl Holley carburetor ..................................................................... Still not a Stefina beater, :3gears: unless maybe you hook it to a pushbutton automatic??
Brian, It can't be quick, after all everybody knows the first muscle car didn't happen until 1964. Pontiac invented fast cars, ask them!! Would be neat as hell to see a three way run off with your Merc, the Edsel and my Y block. Be even neater if somebody'd show up with a Tripower Pontiac, a J2 Olds, A Plymouth Fury or a D500 or an Early Chrysler letter car. We already have a 409, but I'd like to see a Fuelie Chevy Sedan, a 348 Tri power maybe even a fuel injected 57 Rambler. Just to confuse the kiddies. How about a dual carb, 308 cubic inch Hudson Hornet? Maybe a 1960 360 hp Ford Starliner? pegleg:bla:
A '60 Starliner is one I've wanted to do for several years now, but money has stalled that one. Years ago I saw a '57 Olds ad. J2, three on the tree, radio delete, heater delete, clock delete post coupe. Fresh out of the barn. Just bought the '61 Vette otherwise I would have called.
Actually it is. $10,900 :dollar: for the killer Edsel. Here are Jake's and his buddy's "Cars for Sale" page. Lots of Fords and Mopars. And a oportunity to own a Matador!! A nice Talledega Torino for sale too! http://www.jakesgeneralstore.com/Listpages/forsale.htm
I used to know where there was a complete 360 Horse 352, original manifold etc. Had the same dollar problem as Brian though. That could have been a 4 speed motor, i could actually shift it. That'd be novel.:bla:
The Fury is doable as there is a '57 limited edition Golden Fury in the lower shop. 318 wide block and dual four's  Would have to sneak it out though as Dad isn't crazy about drag racingo No:
Lon, That would be an absolute blast, let me talk to your DAD, After all I'm probably older than he is. maybe I can make him mad enough at me to bring it and show that Ford up! The dual quad Furies were not slow.:3gears:
You could try to talk to him but I know it would fall on 1/2 deaf ears (literally). Dad was a circle track racer back in the day, running sprint cars. He doesn't see the fun in going in a straight line:idea2: Maybe this should be the next car on the redoing list and poke & play with the baby "Hemi" (400hp/400ft lb torque has been seen). Lon
Lon, Try this, tell him you know a guy ( an old guy) with a bad leg, bad back and damn near blind with an old Ford that'll blow his doors off. Maybe that'll make him mad enough to come and try it. Once he tries it, he'll be hooked. Once a racer ALWAYS a racer. You never get over the bug. Also tell him Since he's a roundy car racer he should be MUCH better than us old amateur straight line racers. If nothin else bring him with out the car just to watch, He'll be back. You could also tell him Ted Harbit's 72 and does not get beat very often, with a Studebaker!!
