maybe some of you remember the article "options not included #6 - export" in the riv owners mag may/june 2007? the car mentioned in the beginning of the article - the one with the 200km/h speedo- here it is, after some hard working getting it back on the road. first, i did not know that the car was been featured, until a member here (75Riv) told me about it. as the car was for sale, he took a look at it and a photograph of its speedo, that was published. a few days later, i bought it, without knowing anything about that. some research revealed that it was an export car, distributed via antwerpen to its german buyer. so it always has been a german car, with all necessary modifications (euro lights, km/h speedo, speed alert) i recently finished working on the car, just in time to spent my honeymoon holidays with it, driving about 4000km from germany to south italy and back. we had some great time the last weeks. we must have looked like an ufo down there in south italy, a country with no old cars at all (the reason for this is that its restricted to drive an non-emission controlled car in those regions, regardless of the cars age). here are some photos, of how the car lookes like now and how i got it. if you want to see the restauration process and some nice impressions of its decent brandywhine candy finish, click here : http://www.oldschoolcustoms.de/projekte_in_arbeit.php?id=373&detail=1
Congratulations on keeping a car like that on the road in such good shape way over there in the EU! I find it difficult enough doing the same here in the States. I'm sure you turned plenty of heads, did you have a chance to show some newer cars what kind of torque a nailhead puts out?
Very sweet. It looks like a car that Dean Martin would have driven in one of those old movies, with beautiful women everywhere... Bert
Very nice car. I would guess you get some very funny looks driving a 65 Buick in the home of Porsche and a Mercedes truck factory. Anyone every stop you to ask you what it is? I just got back from Germany. I was there for a week working in Bensheim and Mannheim.
thanks! although a riv is somewhat rare over here in germany, we do have a lot of old muscles rollin around, its a strong scene with good financial backing... but most people wont believe that a riv dates back to 63, with all that luxury, shape and technology. they think that german cars always had the technological advantage... did you ever look at a german car from that era? :Brow:
Nice work!!!:TU: In photo 4, I noticed the price at the pumps. I presume that is per liter. Correct? Again, Good Job!
Very impressive. I like the way those wheels look on it too! :TU: Agreed. I can picture him with it. Mr.cool. :bglasses:
GORGEOUS! There are a lot of Riviera guys in the US who'd love to have that car! It looks like your wife is OK with it too. Good choice in a woman and car! Dan
That car came a looooooooong way since I noticed her a few years ago in Augsburg. Very impressive :eek2: :TU: Somewhere on my HD I should have a few photos from when I saw the Riv for the first time... when found I will upload them here
Not really an export car since it was actually built in Antwerp, Belgium. Just like the Swiss Buicks were built in the Biel (CH) factory. For tax reasons, the cars had the H for Flint in their VIN's.
