So it seems like some PO have used the wrong carburetor from what i can read online. Its a quadrajet 7041544 wich should be for a 350. So now im on the market for a replacement but wich quadrajet's should i be looking for? Ive found 2 that might fit but is there other choices. 7041240 7041540 And what is the price usually for those.
If your not in need of a correct part number Carb for your year motor then these days with even brand rebuilders Carbs being so bastardized from what I have seen the odds are you would be better off getting your current set up for use on a 455.
https://www.teambuick.com/reference/carburetor_numbers.php Contact one of the rebuilders on the board and they can set you up with a nice 455 carb. Numbers are in the chart above and, as mentioned, any Q-jet from a BBB will work for you. The 350 carb can work, I'm using one on my BBB, but some circuits are "off". Prices vary (Stage 1 carbs are not the best choice unless you have a Stage 1) but I'm guessing $500 to $800 (US) done. Remember there is a big difference between "rebuilt" and "restored" - mostly in appearance. Hint - You should add some info to your profile like car and location.
I like the 540's (and thats what I use) , but the 72-73 240's have a better fuel inlet casting/threads
Thanks for all your feedback. Sorry i forgot to write in my first post that i like to keep things "original" even tho the 455 dosent fit my 1969 electra i'd like to have a carb on there that used to be on a 455. Yea ive seen some rebuilt carbs listed at 600+ I hope to find a used one on ebay i can throw some parts at my self to save some of the cost. #12lives thats ecxatly what i was looking for!
Everyday Performance or Quadrajet Power might have one that will work without a long wait. If not, either can fix you up with something that will be nice.
Call or PM Ken Gies (techg8) right here on V8buick. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?forums/everyday-performance-llc.172/ Here is his website, https://www.everyday-performance.com/
I have a complete 7041540 800 cfm that needs Kens magic. Can ship directly to him if interested. The carb is apart, but, complete. I got it that way. LMK, Matt
The existing carburetor you have will work. If you are going through it anyway, you can tweak it,just like anything else.
Best running qjet I've ever had and still have is a 70 350 qjet that "butchered" according to a most carb guys....runs like fuel injection and runs harder than any other one I've had or built
