I remember that small block shootout. We were loaded for bear for that one, but had a problem at Norwalk the previous Sunday (blew out an oil plug behind the flywheel). Tore it down and fixed it the next day only to have it happen again. Gave up on the shootout and the race until Weds (day before) when Gary Rubrich called and said he had the fix in his hand and if I had it torn down by dinner time, he'd come over, work all night if neccessary to fix it, and maybe we'd still make it. Did that, but everyone was burned out about 4 AM (especially Gary) and we grabbed a few hours sleep. Reassembled later that morning, and took off for Stanton. Hadn't had a chance to even clean off the greasy fingerprints. Got to the hotel just in time for everyone coming back there. ET we ran that weekend would have made that shootout an all Olds event as our best time was VERY close behind Casey's and well ahead of the next one.

Think I have some pics of that. Will start a new thread called "thrashing" to memorialize that night. Sure we've all got some great stories to tell, hiopefully a few pics to go with it. Tim Clary could write an encyclopedia on this! Pegleg and Joel did pretty well at Martin last year, too. Donny was still putting parts on his car if I remember correctly.

If you put front tow-tabs on your cars, it would make the tow down the 1320 a little more "formal" ..........

 

Man, it's a shame my car will be the most teched car in the history of the Pure Stocks, because I think I need some of them thar cheat'n parts this year.......... :rant:

This is normally where I'd insert some irreverent comment about stupid old people, but it took me a good 10 minutes to figure it out, too. Stupid computers. Join AARP and you either won't be able to afford a musclecar, or be brainwashed into thinking that cars are the primary source of CO2, not cow Farts. Big UN study released today on Cow Farts (18% of the CO2 problem....how do you measure that?) Like they don't have enough to do these days?

My Dad joined AARP years ago. They had a course "named 55 and alive" that was teaching those old geezers to get out in the high speed lanes, block traffic, and slow everybody down to 55 for safety. We took away his car about that time. We noticed how they start soliciting you when you're in your forties now. Think that's a little late as I don't think there's anyone in Michigan working still that's much older than that. And if you are, you'd better duck your heads and dig your foxholes deeper.

 

Thanks for that hIjack starter, Dave. It is amazing to me that MR.ALGORE has forgotten one important thing in his 'Inconvient Truth'. The fact that every living being produces CO2. Could it be that we are overpopulating the earth and that our forest and grasslands and oceans cannot convert the CO2 quick enough. Who knows, we may have worldwide population control come about? ou:
