I have a 1966 Skylark with a 300 cid engine and Im thinking of changing the carb to a modern 4 bbl unit to increase engine output and possibly the fuel economy. Does anyone have any thoughts on this and maybe where I could start my search for all needed parts?
    Thanks

First off, if you want fuel economy, stick with the 2 barrel. Go to a 4 if you want some more power. Post a wanted ad in one of the forums towards the bottom and I'm sure someone will help you out more than I can.

If you go to a qjet you will get better gas mileage........if you keep your foot out of the secondaries. As long as the qjet is tuned and driven well, it will give you phenomenal gas mileage.....much more than a 2bbl could ever give.

Reason is - primary venturis on the qjet are smaller than the venturis on a 2bbl.

  4. I would look for a factory 4 bbl setup; it will be stock, and the factory service manual can help you out. Of course, it might be cheaper to go with a modern intake (if one is made) and a new carb. Either way, I've had two 2bbl powered cars, and you couldn't tell they weren't 4 bbl. The biggest problem I ever felt with 2bbl carbs is people look down on them for being non-performance.

Thanks for all the input guys but I think I'm going to stick with the original 2bbl.

    Good Move

Good move for now! But you can get better gas milage and have a 4 bbl also but it all will depend on how you drive it and keep up on the tune up of the Motor and the carb. Just Like Smartin said :TU: Bama I hear you about being "LOOKED DOWN ON" , I could never figure that out? :puzzled:
