Well. I bought a Thomson Detent Plate . Thinking it would fit my Buick horseshoe shifter. No it does not fit. (Chevy) only. The product appeared in the July 2011 issue of Muscle car review. I talked to Herb at SHIFTWORKS where I purchased it. He thought maybe put a (Chevy) shifter in the car for it to work since they are different shifters. Does anyone have any ideas ? can this be done? the mounting holes on the DT3 ( Detent Plate) do not match the plate on my Buick shifter.

Seems to me that with a little bit of thought and experimentation, you could make your own. What you need to do is deepen the detents for positive shifter stop in each gear. Might take some trial and error. Or, you could just modify your governor to shift where you want it to.

Gave Bob Thomson (Thomson Performance) a call! hope he calls me back! I don't understand why he doesn't make them for other "A" Body's . Larry are you telling me that you guys modify your BUICK factory DETENT plate?

I have not, but others have. Hopefully, they see this thread and post. I do not like shifting myself. I am a proponent of setting up the governor so that the transmission shifts where you want it to at wide open throttle.

I see your point ! Well taken. Now that you mention it . It should be better that way. Just thought Thompson had a good thing going there! But not thinking it through I assumed it would fit our Buicks.

Larry I found an old thread from a year ago. You said there might be an article on how to manipulate/ modify the buick dentent plate in the GSCA Extra. If anybody finds it could you post? Thanks.

I guess I could not find that article if I never posted it. I can't remember if I saw it in the GSCA or Northeast Chapter newsletter. It was awhile back. I'll try and do some more looking. As far as the Thompson plate goes, I have no idea. You have the plate. See if you can compare it to the stock one and either modify the Thompson or the stocker to do what you want.

Larry. Talked to Bob Thompson today he said if I would send him pics of a Buick shifter and some measurements that he would consider making a DETENT plate for the Buick. But I think if you guys would " CHIME " in on this to give me an idea how many of us would be interested . he would make them for the TH 400 & TH 350 also! What do you guys think?

    Steve,
I'd go for one if it will help, but don't expect the floodgates to open as far as responses go. Nothing happens that fast on any message board, even V8. Give it a few days.

Thanks Larry! If this goes anywhere might need your assistance. I'm not known in the Buick community. But you are.

you need to start a new thread in the bench - and have a good idea of cost. Describe what it does and why someone would want it.

That said, I'm in for at least one probably 2

All you need to do is PM a moderator and ask him to move the thread to the Bench. PM Jim Lore(flynbuick).
