Does anyone know who sells the throttle shaft bushings and the tool to put then in?

Last I knew, The Carb Shop sold kits for just that. Or, they can do it for you. Believe they're down in the LA area.

Any decent machine shop can do this. You don't need "special" bushings, thinwall valve guides work, too, if cut to length.

Almost any speed shop will sell the bushings. If you have access to a drill press you can do it too, its easy enough. One thing on the small screws that hold the blades on, don't try to back them out without first grinding down the ends that are sticking out, they are peened to prevent them from coming out, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes they break. Hobby shops sell new screws that will work, commonly used in rc aircraft and cars. 3-48 is the screw size. Install and then cut to length, the cutter will flatten the area as well preventing them from backing out.

Do a search online for carb bushings, one site has complete instructions on how to do it, they also sell the kit for 40.00 or so....sorry no link...

    Tim,

Thanks for the detailed response. I have several carbs I want to re-bush. The carbs are in great shape (with the exception of the bushing) and I don't want to send them out to a pro since it will cost too much (I want to do 8 of them).

    EIGHT??????

Thats funny, when I had my carb cleaner out (the real stuff) I tore down and put back together 5 separate carbs...only one got rebuilt but I just wanted everything cleaned up then I could put them in the house for storage.

It was interesting the various ways the coatings were on for each year.It was also interesting how log that carb cleaner smell took to go away..its NASTY!!!!

I'll try to find that one site because you need to twist one linkage 45 degrees or so to get the link to the rear butterflies off....its kinda wierd but once you do it you get a feel for it.

Other than that, my bushings took a 3/8" drill bit (use a NEW ONE!), a drill press, careful alignment using a 5/16" rod to set the drill press, bushings were a press in fit, no reamer required...awesome! Reamer might be good if you get them off square slightly but whatever you do will be an improvement I am sure.

Got it!!!!! here is the link, very helpful:

One other thing, the butterflies might look like the holes are in the center but they aren't, mark them so you put them back correctly....they are actually designed to help pull themselves back and if you are careful you will see its incorrect but if you aren't paying attnetion a guy could put them in wrong. Watch that.

    Tim,

Again, thanks for the information. I checked out the web-site and it looks pretty straight forward and it'll put my drill press to good use. I'm not worried if I ruin one 'cause I have quite a few spares from my years of collecting.

I'll watch out for the butterflies. Thanks for the warning - I hate learning the hard way (even though I do it quite frequently  ).
