If I was to stray from the traditional rally wheel (I'd love some 15x7's) what would someone think of maybe a black powder coated rim like the AR-767 or Cragar D Window wheels(4" bs). They are black with a red stripe. I would put them on a 65 Skylark convertible, red w/ black top. I would like a nice size tire, around 245/60 15 seems to be what alot of guys have mentioned on this site. The car is a driver(350) not a racer, but very nice. I think red line tires or just no white letters, only black showing might look pretty tough. Also affordable!!! I'm not sure I want real flashy aftermarket stuff. I think these might represent a decent level of evil. Or maybe I'd look like a dork! What's the word gurus? Opinions from those experienced in creating the Buick stance are greatly appreciated.
American Racing's web site has a feature that lets you view wheels and sizes on your car. After you pick a set of wheels, down at the bottom of the page there's an option to view a car with the wheels. They have a 67 Skylark and you can change the color. I'm partial to the Torq-Thrust II Classics for that car. Happy shopping www.americanracing.com
I like those too, or old Torq thrusts. I saw that software on there it is called soft wheels or something. I was just wondering what other drivers might think on how the black rims might look....cool or crappy. Thanks for the info., Uncle
Those redline tires look neat. When choosing tires it best to visit several review sites. Type in the different brands of tire or tire names into a search engine and you will find lots of reviews. Two years ago for me and after a bunch of reading I went with Dunlop SP sport 5000. An all weather Z rated tire . 165mph+ 35-52 psi rating. People from all over said they were great, they whooped all over other hi performance tires in every area. My experience is they are great. Rain snow or shine they stick like glue. My only problem in the winter is everyone driving so slow. I can drive like normal turn and stop when I want. But they have newer version of the 5000 out by now but have not read up on it. When I got mine they were $65 each with the extended warranty plus shipping. They would of been $120 each local. [But now the give you free shipping so the prices are a tad higher.] http://discounttire.com [The site has change though and you can't search by brand. So you only get to see tires by the type of car you tell them. Dumb.]
I'm planning on putting those on my 68 225. Good to hear they've served you well. www.tirerack.com has them too.
I have a set of E-T Classic fives basicly torq thrusts on my 67 GS and they look sweet. The link on amercan racings sit that says 67 buick is actually a 68 last time i looked at it. Personally i don't think you can go wrong with that style of wheel on 60's cars. thanks Adam
oh yea use a 3.75 inch back spacing and you should be able to fit a 245/60/15 on with out problem. At least it works on my car. thanks Adam
These wheels would look awesome on a 64-65 skylark. They are 35 year old Appliance 14x7's with a 5 on 4 and 3/4 bolt pattern. The rims have been polished and the centers have been re-painted cast iron gray. I want $400 for the wheels alone, and $500 with the tires. The tires are dunlop qualifiers, 225/70-14 they're 30 miles old. Kevin
Yep, the Torque Thrusts look good. I really love the 15X7 Ralley look with fat Goodyear G60's though! Here's my ride...Oh ya, Len the GS looks freakin' great!
"New" old school look Here are the Forged Cragar SS wheels on my 72...they are not chrome plated but forged aluminum.
Hey, thanks for all the input. Of course I'm not sure which way to turn now! I'll stew on it some more, and of course any other ideas or opinions are welcome if not needed! Uncle
Best all season performance tire I ever owned. Have them on a 96 Z28 and they're everything you want in a tire. No problem driving in inclement northeast weather at all anytime. Folks complain about F-Body's in the snow, not me, just give me a lane and get out of my way. Got 50,000 miles out of first set and still had tread left. 245/60-16. Did pay $140 each a tire though. Well worth it after the fact. Was disappointed couldn't find them in 235/70-15 for the Riv. Went with some Yokohama Avid S/T's instead. Still need to get through some inclement weather before I start the praise.
