Took the plunge, interior change.

I've been hating my black interior since the first hot summer day I drove my 68 back in 2002... non a/c car. So finally today, I ordered a white front bench seat cover from Legendary. Hoping to pull the seat this summer and have it professionally repaired and recovered. Broke a couple springs in the seat back in recent years, and they put small tears in the back side of the vinyl. Eventually the door panels and rear seat cover will be changed too, but that's a big investment.

I loved the white interior of my brother's 68 back in the day, and look forward to getting started on the conversion. Will post pics when the time comes. Right now it's too freakin' cold to think about working in the garage, and the car has been admitted for a transplant anyway... :)

Good luck with your new white interior David! One of the reasons I bought my 1972 Skylark convertible is that it has a white interior - wouldn't want to cook in a black seat when the top was down!

I ordered my first new car, 1970 chevelle Malibu 2dr ht, with a white bucket seat interior. I love the white but it can be a lot of work, especially back then in a daily driver, to keep the white seats white and the exterior has to be the proper colour. My chevelle was forest green in colour.
I chose to dye the sandlewood panels and replace the seat covers, in black in my '72 GS. I change to white would have been just as easy to do. I chose the black because the car was/is fire red + black vinyl top. in my case, I preferred the black over white. then again, it is each to his/her own.

The sandalwood bench in my car stays nasty. However, being 43 years old and being a DD takes a toll.

    OMG... :eek2:

No daily driver here, this is a 6 month fair weather driver. The only color combo difference from my brother's 68 was his vinyl top was parchment, IIRC. My white ext and black top should look good with white interior.

Hadn't thought about dyeing anything black to white. Wonder how well that would cover, and how it would wear.

Good luck but white sure gets dirty quick.

Since I don't drive my 68 all that often, keeping it cleaned shouldn't be that difficult, and I've had white before. And this isn't a show car either. I just don't want to deal with burning thighs and forearms in the summer anymore.

Funny as a teenager I drove my 68 Skylark convertible in NC, black top, black interior, and yes black steering wheel, no ac. The cloth bench seat cover prevented me from burning my butt, can not tell you the number of times I regretted touching the steering wheel. Today my 70 has white interior and ac, but still get the hot hands in the summer if I leave it with the top down. The black was a lot easier to keep clean. You should be pleased with the legendary interior I had them recover mine.

Thinking of doing the same thing Dave, but mine's already white, an older resto ( 12+ years) Should I go whole hog and get the seats and doors too?
Or would the older white be really bad off color with the new?
(I'm changing bench seat to buckets/short console)

When I did mine I was really thinking about going with the white interior. Then I found a set of front and back seats out of a 2006 GTO on eBay. The seats look like they grew there and I won a trophy at a local car show sponsored by GM/UPS/United Way for best interior. I had a local upholstery shop remove the seat panel with "GTO" and replaced it with "GS 455" embroidered in bright red stitching in the correct font matching the fender emblems. I also had seat heaters installed as well. That doesn't solve the burning thigh issue, but the perforated real leather and AC does and the interior smells great. I bought the whole set including seat belts from "fparts" on eBay for $800.

The first shot is of the front seats showing the embroidery. The second shows the seat heater switches in the shorty console. The third is of the back seat. Sorry it is dark in the garage, so the quality is not there.

I have had two black interior convertibles down here so it tickles me to hear you talk about your heat!

We have plenty of 90 deg summer days with high humidity. Maybe not as extreme as down south, but its all relative. :)

Geez, do ya need to keep posting that monstrosity in my thread??? Yikes that is UGLY. :Dou:

Back on topic... my white front seat cover arrived from Legendary today. Man it looks nice! Funny, they pencil-marked the spots where the buttons should go, on the front side. I'm sure they'll erase just fine. I have no plan to install those uncomfortable things.
