Hi guys, I have a '70 GS & have a chance to pick up a set of 15" Torq-Thrust D's (15x7 & 15x8.5) for a decent price & was wondering how they would fit. I have a '70 GS with 235 60 TA's on front & 275 60 DR's on the rear. Right now I just use the factory 15x7's all around. It looks like the back spacing is only 3.75" for the D's so will they fit? Anyone using them? From what I understand around 5" back spacing would be better but I'm not sure if it's a must have. I also have 3" tailpipes so space is a little tight.
I have the 17" Torque Thrust II's with 4.75" backspacing on a 8" wide wheel for the front and 5.75" backspacing on a 9.5" wide wheel for the rear. I'm running a 40 series tire so there isn't any sidewall bulging out, but the rear wheel is centered in the wheel well with the 5.75" backspacing. With the 3.75" backspacing on those wheels you are talking about it will be a really close fit. If there wasn't any sidewall sticking outside the rim like mine, you wouldn't have a problem. I just measured my rear wheel and you would have around 1" of space between the outside edge of the rim to the inside edge of the wheel well moulding. I believe it's the same amount of space for the inside of the rim to the inside of the inner wheel well too. To be on the safe side I would use 4.50" to 4.75" backspacing. I don't think you would have a problem with the fitting of the front wheels
Agree with the above, I don't think those rear set ups are gonna fit, you'd probably need at least 5" of B.S. with an 8.5" wide wheel.
Wouldn't you know it. I just left American's web site after deciding to go with Torq-Thrust D's, if the BS would work. Shot Down!! Has anyone called them to see if a 5' BS may be available later?? o No:
Yo ucan get them in the Torque thrust II's. Look in the list, if not there look in the "custom backspacing" section.
