What are people using for stall speed with stock tires? I need a new one and I see that you can get 1800-2500 stall. I know that you wouldnt want a 3000-4000 with out slicks so what brands are you guys using? Will a stock summit one hold up to a 455 cubic inch engine from repedetive drag strip use?

Well, that depends - an Olds or Pontiac 455, no problem. A Buick is another story altogether

Seriously, Dave Hemker recently said on the board that he's had his best times with a stock converter. Too much stall speed = too much torque on the line and it's hard to hook up. But that's a Buick 455....

And this has proven true with every P/S trans I've been involved with.

Use a stock 1800 RPM stall converter.
A Buick does not need a higher stall due to its abundant torque.
