I installed a Torque tech 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust system on my 70. It is the manifold system. I also used the Dynomax Super Turbo long case mufflers - part # 17749. There is no crossover pipe. The system fit perfectly - even better than the custom bent system that was on the car before. I did the whole job in my garage in 3 hours. That included taking the old system off. However, it is LOUD. I could not believe how loud at cruise, and much louder at WOT. I called the DynoMax tech line, and they suggested putting a 12" Race Bullet muffler in line before the other muffler as a resonator. They claim this will quiet down the system. Any comments or experiences would be appreciated!
bullets I have the walker bullets on my 350 car in addition to a crossover and 17749 long case mufflers, car is very quiet. have a couple friends that have them on their 455 cars too. works great. good luck, bob
I run the dynomax muffs (small case) and a 2.5 mandrel system. I don't find it loud at cruise. It is loud when WIDE open though.:Brow: I found everything quieter though by installing the jute mat and fiber board behind the rear seat between the passenger compartment and trunk. Doesn't cost much either. Get this stuff from Y/O or OPGI. I bet you can get 5 dB reduction.
Paul, you may not want to do the X pipe now since you just did the exhaust, but it's a good idea down the road. It WILL knock down the noise and pick up a little power. The sound is different, but pleasant, and it's plenty loud for me! I think, with the 3" pipes and headers, it's just the sound of easy breathing. You might think about improving the air flow with an X pipe instead of possibly increasing restriction with the resonators. Good luck!:3gears:
Thanks for all the inputs! DynoMax claims that adding in a 12" Race Bullet will not impede flow and quiet it down. More to come.....
