If you are fixing your car up to be a keeper you should take a serious look at a 200-4R. You would get much better fuel mileage and the lower 1st gear would help in the performance area. IMHO

so the 200-4r have a kickdown and lock up. can someone please explain this? im pretty lost when it comes to trannys.

Im not looking to drive this everyday. but i would like to eventually take it on small roadtrips. like from san francisco to san diego. dont need speed or fast acceleration. just a good solid cruising tranny that will ease the work of the engine.

    please advise. thanks fellas!

From what you are describing you would be just as well served to leave the trannsmission you have. You originally wanted a little more pickup, now acceleration isn't important. Your engine speed in drive will be the same with either the 300 or 350. The 200 would ease the cruise effort for the engine on the highway but at a greater cost. I would leave it as is.

ok well, speed is a little important, but im not running from police. So something thats going to handle the driving. If you say whatever i have is fine then ill consider getting it rebuilt possibly. Ill have to figure out how to put the kick down switch back in then so if i do have to pass cars.

one more thing my dash reads P R N D L1 L2 what kind of trans reads this?

sounds like you already have a 3 speed. if you can take a pic of the trans pan then we can tell you exactly what trans you have.:beers2:
