Ok, I just noticed this problem a little while back and have been trying to figure it out on my own but cannot come to a conclusion. There has been "trans. leak" coming out and dripping out on the driver side, and the trans is held up by a jack w/ a piece of wood for a temporary hold until the 350 is in. Now, it isn't leaking directly under the trans, but it is a red-colored liquid. I don't know exactly where it's coming from(is it power steering fluid?), but it's leaking out the side. I snapped a pic, which is very blurry but if you look closely you can see that it is red and a liquid. Any hints as to what this might be? Any leads are appreciated, thanks!

Ok, maybe I should have named this thread "Transmission leak....or maybe not?????"

Any advice as to what I should check?

Cody, maybe it's just me, but I can't tell squat from that picture. Can you give us a little more info? it could be P/S fluid. is the P/S pump in the car, sitting upright where the fluid won't drain out the top? Did you have the leak before you pulled the motor? is the tranny sitting in its normal level position, or is it possibly a little lower than usual? can you take a look and see if there is any of the red mystery fluid inside the bellhousing? under the tranny pan? did you pull the converter at any time? did you possibly dislodge the fill tube?

    give us a hint!

Being more exact as to the location would certainly allow someone to help you better. FWIW when I had my th350 jacked up the first time with no engine it leaned towards the passenger's side and it leaked, a lot. It seemed to be coming from around the pan gasket area but I couldn't be sure. Fortunately once I got the engine back in, the leak stopped and I just had to top off the trans fluid level. Hopefully your problem will remedy itself as easily as mine did.

if your trans if jacked up then the trans could be leaking out the tail where the drive shaft slides in, the shaft could have slid out a bit. If you have ever had a trans tipped up you would notice it will leak out the tail.

The convertor could be leaking, too.
