no real questions but just a little ramble. i've been comming across alot of these "rare" 8.5 posi rears with factory rear discs off trans am quite a bit latly on craigs list or 300 or so.. just wondering since there is such an option how come no one talks about these rears..hell you could just buy it swap the disc stuff over and you get a rear cheap rear disc setup and just sell/scrap the gm corpate axle!
digged up some info..apprerently every 70-81 trans am with the ws6 package came factory with discs on the 8.5 rear:Smarty: correction not all got it, due to beingg too popular for demand..so any ws7 package with the j65 option has the 4 wheel disc brakes! i take it 79 was the first year as it was the 10th annivarsary
I ordered a TA in 79 w/WS6 package, which included rear disks. Took over 10 months to take delivery because factory had problems getting rear disks from supplier. Can you fill me in on the WS7 package? Never heard of it.
from the article a read, they made a new rpo due to the lack fo supply of rear disc rearends and the ws6 was the same minus rear discs and the ws7 came with the rear discs(ws6 with j65 option)
