Trans identification

    Can a GM transmission be identified by the numbers engraved on the plate on the side? If so, can someone tell me what I have? it is a TH400 and the numbers on the side plate read 74 PR 12027 there is also a "34" cast into the top of the bellhousing.

    74 PR is a Pontiac THM 400, originally behind a 1974 455 in a LeMans or Gran Prix. See you at Atlantic City this Saturday? :TU:

    Thanks Larry. I just picked this up for my ragtop. Just wondered what it originally came out of. I bought it from a local Buick racer in my neighborhood. Claims it has been rebuilt by his trans guy and was never used since.
    Yes, I will be in AC...in fact my wife and I are leaving for AC on Thursday and will stay thru Sunday. I will look for you and the gang on Saturday.
