I have a 65skylark and a v8-300 with a (2)speed trans...what ""transmission"" can i upgrade to and where can i find it. Please help Marvin
Marvin, The auto trans that was original equipement is the ST-300. Much different than the Powerglide, but frequently confused with it. If you want an easy replacement, the 200R4 is a virtual bolt-in, requiring only that the transmission crossmember be moved back about 4.5 inches and the fitting of a TV cable to the throttle linkage to control shifts. This swap is covered in detail in several places, most notably in the Aug '01 Hot Rod, where they did it in a '67 Skylark. It's a nice upgrade, giving you a four speed auto with overdrive and a lock up torque converter. Turns the Skylark into a real highway cruiser.
