Tricky door rust, what to do?

    Hi all.

On my GS 72 I have what seems to be some rather nasty rust on my doors where the upper front part meets the chassis (the inside of the door is to the top of the picture and the top of the door is to the left of the picture).

It seems like a hard spot to restore if I get rid of all the old metal/rust or is there no reason for my worries?

Any good ideas on how to handle this?

    TIA.

It would may me worry about what else on the car has problems like that. In light of the other issues I would think about letting the dealer refund your money and ship the car back to him.

have you removed that rubber to check out the door it self i think there is some metal molded in that rubber

Looks like bad prep work.......they repainted the car w/o removing the w-strip. You can fix that easily but will be time consuming. You will need to cut out the rusted metal and mig weld in some new metal.

I would check out the bottom of the doors where the weather stip changes from being vertical to horizontal. The metal in this area is the thinest due to the sharp bend.

Well, as far as I can see w/o removing carpets and the interior there is very little rust on it. We have close to 6 months of winter anyhow and I need something to do during that time. ;)

I know the car doesn't like rain though, there was quite a bit of water inside the car when the first rain in several weeks hit us yesterday. :( No puddles but a steady drip.

I'll take a closer look at the doors asap and see how much exactly is eaten away.

Would getting new doors be an option? I'm going to repaint the car anyhow (not this year though).
