Chris, That chart lists 1126 converts total... of all the different colors. I did add them all up here from the chart. I remember Jim Lore did the math once, it was a guess based on percentage of black 44667 cars which of course are BB convertibles. Just trying to look at the broad number of all the STG 1 converts, and get a picture of possible production, based on percentage estimates. From the chart, there were 26 code A Tag 19 44667 black cars. But only about 20% of the entire 44667 run was a STG 1 car. 20% of 1126 44667 cars, is 225.. actual number was 232 produced, so it's like 20.6% but I rounded.. 20% of 26... That's where we come up with about 5 or so. No way to be sure on this, there is no breakdown of STG1/color combo. I understand the confusion, it states 232 STG 1 converts at the bottom.. it's a bit confusing. JW ---------- Post added at 11:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:44 AM ---------- That is the key point, we will never know, they were never broken down for STG 1/ ext/top/interior color. For all we know 20 of the 26 cars were triple black stg 1 cars.. And then they all got crashed? Certainly, not many survived. If this one is real, then that is only the second triple black STG 1 ragtop I have seen, heard about a couple more.
we're all just guessing but my first take on "rebuilt 455 and original trans" meant that both are original but the trans is original and never rebuilt. but yea, it could also mean as Jim states. NOM, rebuilt motor and #s-match trans.
I remember one hit ebay some time ago and it did not sell the owner then supposedly sold it for over 200k but as far as I know the sale wasn't documented.
I take it the other way - he goes through the trouble of stating original trans yet avoids applying it to the motor, so my take is he knows the value associated with "original" and omitted it regarding the engine because it is not o No:
I agree Alan, and also may be factor in why it's being re-sold. As I understand it from Chris, our resident sales guru, it was sold in the not too distant past. I have had expriences where someone brings a car to me, for inspection/resto.. after evaluating it and uncovering "stuff" the vehicle is not restored, and later re-sold. Since it's in a resto shop now, that may be the case here. JW
You are right Jim, I misread the chart! Yes, the owner of the car currently who has it on ebay acquired it fairly recently and my understanding is that he is selling off some of his Buicks. The gentleman he bought it from, also had bought it not too long before that as I recall. And the guy he bought it from, I believe had owned it for a number of years.
This is precisely why the Stage1 registry was started years ago and why it's important for the owners to participate. :Smarty:
AMEN to that Marco and thank you for your years of effort in that regard. Every S1 I've ever owned I've listed with your registry and love to look back at how the list has grown, I remember when it would all fit on one page. For that guys money I'll sell my Stage 1 convertible and it is all numbers matching and throw in a rust free 70 convertible :TU: Can't claim mine looks this nice though.
The gold car in St Louis on ebay is a legit stage 1 convertible. Its not black and its got a bench seat but it also has a nom. My understanding it can be bought in the low to mid 40k range and its restored to a high #2
The exact numbers are available right now. Sloan has half of it and the GS Historic has the rest. If they got together and someone took the time to sort through it the exact numbers would come out.:Smarty: This only applies to 1970 Stage 1 cars. :TU:
It appears the Ebay listing has been updated to include a statement that everything "except the block" is numbers matching.
Mike To bad Sloan dosen't have all of '70 . Thanks to them and Mark M all of the '72 are accounted for . Id volunteer to just get half of them accounted for . Lots of microfiche to sort through ! DL
The other "half" of 1970 is around though, so someday they all could be accounted for. If I had that other half, at minimum I would have gone through it to pull out the statistics for the Buick community. The individual car info could still be retained and supplied if requested just like Sloan offers. So Sloan has all of the '72 info, even from the other factories besides Flint?
Yes, and Mark Macoubrie went through it all, pulling out all the Stage1 cars http://www.stage1registry.com/registry/1972_facts.htm Thank you Mark!
