Brand new in the box TSP 9.5 inch Stage 1 converter. I didn't take a picture as I didn't want to dump all of the peanuts out of the shipping box. I just opened the box tonight for the first time. BRAND NEW. Currently goes for $499, will sell for $425 plus the ride from 06461.

    Ken,

i might be interested. What is the stall on a TSP stage 1 converter?

24-2600 behind a healthy big block in a 3800 lbs gs. That one is real tight around town under light throttle.

Ken is going with one of my VP setups, doesn't need this one.

Yep, loved the Switch Pitch in my '66 'Cat, so changing directions.

    Louie you're first in line.

Ken I have some interest in this converter. I'd like to get some feed back on Jim on whether this is a good fit for the combo in my 64 skylark convertible. I feel like i am blowing through the converter when i nail it. There is no perceptible drop in RPM as the car shifts through the gears which makes me think that it is too loose. If Jim happens to see this post my combo is 455 9.5 compression, performer intake , hemi killer on 113 LC, 800 CFM qjet , built TH350 , 8.5 inch rear with 3.42 gears.

The guy who built the motor and trans supplied the converter and said it was built with the combo in mind. I know he has the converters for his race cars built by Lupo but i have no idea who built the converter in the car now.

Thanks ken i had read most of that in the past and I've been thinking of one of those converters for a while. It sounds like just what the doctor ordered for the combo in my 64. What was the combo you had ordered this for? I would assume that if it is similar to my combo then it would work for me but assuming anything with torque converters usually gets you the wrong converter......

    Tom,

Depends on what your doing with the car, but it being a convert, I can't image your going drag racing too much with it.

For a street cruiser, it would work fine, set-up wise. Will stall around 2500, and you definitely won't drive thru it. How's your idle quality.. I would imagine the 113LC calmed the hemi Killer down a bit.. This one was built with a motor in mind that idles about 700-750 rpm, with 12-14" vacuum. If you've got your advance stuff worked out correctly in the distrib, then it should be fine.

It was build originally for Ken's Riv, but I don't care for that 9.5 in a 5000 lbs car.. just not positive enough at light throttle with that vehicle weight, -- I had the opportunity to test with one last year. Ken decided to go VP. It's completely different in a 3800 lbs car.

This the the converter combo that I sell for A bodies with a Hot 350 or warmed over 455's, for mostly street driving. Dual plane, 3.42 gears ect. Lots of this particular one out there, had good feedback on it.

Let me check with the converter shop, it was originally built for a TH-400, and there is an overall height difference between a 350 and 400 converter.. I just can't recall which one is shorter.

I will check with the shop tomorrow and get back with you.

Thanks Jim, the car won't be going down the track too much if at all. My idle is 800 ish with about 10 inches of vacuum power brakes work but just barely. The cam isn't exactly a hemi killer its a Lunati that the engine builder had custom ground. Its a single pattern with 238 @ .050 and 0.509 lift and 113 L/C, very close to the hemi killer but not the TA version. It definitely has a serious lump to the idle but it smooths out right off idle. I was thinking that my existing converter is not all it could be. When i really stand on it the revs barely drop at all on the 1-2 shift or the 2-3 shift. around town it seems fine but it is the only converter I've ever had behind this engine so i have no idea how much better it could be with the right converter.

    Tom,

I will have that installed height info for you tomorrow.. my guy was out today.

As far as application, I might suggest that this one might be a tad on the tight side for you. That sounds like a pretty mean idle with 10" vac at 800..

I would suggest that you might want to send in your current converter. Often times we can re-configure a current one, to work better for you, as long as it's a quality piece to begin with, and it's cheaper than buying a new one.

Ken, If this converter isn't going to be optimum for my combo I'll pass on yours and perhaps I'll get with Jim about either re working my existing converter or building one specifically for my car.

Jim, thanks for taking the time to research this for me, I know you are a busy guy and I appreciate you taking time to make the phone calls to check on this for me. Once i get the car out of storage I'll drop a line about the converter .
