I want to get the trunk of my '63 Electra looking good. I've got the new cardboard, but don't know where to go from here. Was it painted body color? What type of covering did it have? Help, please.
The cardboard in the trunk of my 62 Electra matched the color of the upholstery in the interiors. Mine is a silvery gray color.
Thanks Brian. The cardboard I bought is gray, but the trunk itself in my car is really ratty. Is the metal color the same as the body color? And what is the fabric covering on the trunk floor. Mine had a silver colored pad insulation type material on the very bottom, the rest was covered with an ugly green carpet which I ripped out to reveal a wet floor(ugh)
The trunk of my car is pretty ratty too. My cardboard just happened to be in somewhat decent shape. Here is a pic of what I am dealing with for my trunk.
Thanks for the pics. I need to get in there with a grinder first, then I'll probably hand paint with a rust inhibiting paint. Who knows what I'll do after that. Ken
My trunk looked pretty bad as well. After I took out the soaked carpet (trunk seal was leaking), I took a wire brush on my drill and it took all the surface rust out (that's all I had to deal with) The cardboard was a gray as well. That's going to be replaced when I take it to the upholstery shop and have the entire thing carpeted. This is what it looked like when I bought it and what it looks like now.
Here is a picture of the trunk on my '63 Electra 2dr hardtop. This is an original car with only 17,800 miles on it and as you can see, still has the original spare tire.
Thanks guys! (59 Invicta pics didn't come thru, please try again?). I know I have a leak in my trunk, just waiting for the weather to break to get busy in there. I'm going to do what Sgt. Major did to start. 59 Invicta, we have a car in common, I don't here of many of these around. We'll have to talk more sometimes.
