I need help deciding what to do with the trunk floor in my 72 Skylark. It is badly rusted including the area that goes over the rear axle. I have found complete trunk floors that cover this area for a Chevelle. Some say it is the same, others say that it is different and only the lower pan is the same. Does anyone have experience? Will the Chevelle complete trunk floor work? Thanks
Same trunk pan, same floors, same cowl...lots of parts are the same. Be prepared to pay $500-1000 depending on the rust or be good at metal work and welding.
On a 70-72 chevelle the bumpers bolt to the body not to the frame as the skylarks do but the lower flat part of the floor should be able to be used. Just went through this on a l1 buick that was hit hard in the rear.
I buy the 1 piece trunk floor pans from NPD for 70-2 Chevelles and they fit perfectly......I have an article on our site that covers this and I have done this about 5 times already. Excellent/well made trunk pan. http://www.buickperformance.com/TrunkPan.htm
Does anyone have experience with the full trunk floor that The Parts Place sells? Does it go right up to the back seat?
If it the one with all the braces it goes right to the original seams.I have put 2 in chevelles that were the complete ones and they fit real nice.
Who makes the floor that parts place sells? Is there a picture of one out there ?,they dont have pics on there web site.
It says complete with braces, but I want to make sure that it goes right up to the original seam at the back seat. I will try to call the parts place tommorow. What is it about the Chevelle one that will not work? Can I just cut the part that goes over the trunk lip off?
the rear brace is different because the bumper bolts to the body on the chevelle bbut you could probablly section it 3or 4 inches up in the rear.the part number is different between the chevelle and buick floor at parts place,so they my make ont now .I could not find on earlier this year for the buick when I needed one only for the chevy even though everyone said it would work.
I received a reply from the parts Place and they do have a photo in their new parts section. http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/new...xt=68-72+A-BODY+TRUNK+FLOOR+PAN&Search=Search It looks good to me, so I will be placing an order with them.
If you just needed a section, I have a trunk floor out of a southern car that was cut out in 3 sections.
Thanks Carl, but I need everything from the back seat to the very back. This car is originally a west coast canadian car and the salt in the air has really rusted everything in the rear of this car. Mysteriously the front end and frame are in very good shape.
Well, I received the trunk floor from THe Parts Place and even though it has a different part number than the Chevelle one, it is the same part. When I called to inquire, I was told that they have different part numbers depending on what it is ordered for, but all the "A" body trunk floors are the same part and I am just going to have to cut the back portion off in order to make it fit. If I had know that, I could have purchased it locally. I guess that I just learned that you can't assume anything.ou:
I told you in my previous post....the share the same pan. Just ask here.....you will get the right info.
I have the old floor cut out now and am in the process of sandblasting around where I will be welding the new one in. I will let you know how it goes when I start fitting the new floor. I can tell now that it is going to be chalenging to weld the front to the back seat floor while the body is on the frame.
