like jim said, get a sample amount first.i gave the ppg color code for b/s to a paint guy(napa store) :spank: he went to the computer & came up with a chevy orange, not even close from the sample.he finally found what he thinks is the true b/s buick formula using r-m code wa4140.it matches the picture dan healy sent me of what i remember b/s being.i am going to test it next week if all goes well :TU: jim,can/will you mix it & sell it,just in case? mike is that your car? i thought it was dan healys.heres the other shot he gave me of it
Jamie, As a last resort, I probably could supply you with the color, but it may be cost prohibative.. we only use BASF Glasurite to paint cars, which is about 1/3 more expensive that PPG Deltron, RM Diamont or Dupont Chroma.. While the three I mentioned are fine paints for collision shops, we aren't a collision shop, but a restoration shop, and as such we tend to use better product here. Read that more expensive.. The other factor is that I have to do all the spray outs on it, and in a big job like a concours resto, I can give that time away on the project, but for just selling paint, I would have to charge it.. so your looking at an easy 2-3 hours of fooling around. Could end up being an aweful expensive can of paint, if we are talking about a driver here.. On the other hand, within the envelope of a concours resto, paint cost, even expensive paint, is a secondary consideration. A better idea might be to send me a spray out card/panel after you come up with what you think is the best match, and I can match it to the book. You would want to complete this quickly, as the book is not mine, but a customers that I will have to return here shortly.
Daytona sunset orange metallic similar to Bittersweet mist......warming up to it. But afraid I will grow tired of it compared to a dark blue pearl metallic.
Aqua Mist.... I know it's a 70 color but since you're changing the color anyway... The most beautiful color I have ever seen on a GS Buick convertible is Aqua Mist with a white interior and a white top! In my opinion the top should match the interior or it makes the car look to busy with 3 colors on it. Aqua Mist...all the way! I am sure someone has a picture of a 70-71 Aqua Mist convertible in here. GSX Eric :3gears:
Yeah Eric.....I agree aqua mist is slick. I have a 67 Riv that color but since I'm paying an arm and two legs to get this thing painted I should make the guy work for it and go with a darker color which requires the body to be prepped to a higher level before paint. Or is that irrational thinking?
