tuning an edelbrock for a 425

    hey there fellow nailheads,

I've got a '64 riviera, single 4bbl 425, with some mild upgrades including TA20 cam and shorty headers.

I recently installed an edelbrock 750cfm electric choke carb since I couldn't use my heat-riser choked carter anymore.

I'm wondering if anybody can give me some advice on tuning this carb for the nailhead. I've heard mixed things from people about how well the edelbrocks work (or don't work) on nailhead motors. Is there anybody here who has experimented with different rods and springs and has arrived at a combination they're happy with? I know every engine is different, but maybe I can learn something from what others have done.

The carb doesn't really misbehave right now-- it doesn't hesitate when I floor it, and it starts pretty consistently -- but the exhaust always smells fumey and I have a feeling that using it out-of-the-box is not giving me the best performance & economy I could be acheiving.

    thanks for any advice,
    jeff
