    Howdy all,
I realize that there is probably something in the old threads on this but I will be lazy as usual.Sure as the sun comes up my Turbo 400 will voluntarily relieve itself of about a litre(sorry quart) of its life blood about twice a year on the nice clean floor of my building. It appears to be contagious as my friend Bill Arseneau's car does the same thing(usually at about the same time too!).
I suppose that if the car was under warranty the dealer's answer would be that" they all do that"!
Seriously,I suspect the fluid is running out that little vent hole on the yoke in the back end of the transmission. If the car hasn't been started in awhile then perhaps some of the fluid in the convertor somehow escapes, runs into the tranny and out the "breather" hole.I don't know! Is there any problem in filling in the hole?
I must have the only Buick that doesn't leak a drop of oil but still "wets the bed".I guess old age gets us all!!

I hear that is common if you let it sit too long - drainback from the converter flows out somewhere. It happens to me all the time, and I just make sure its full before I drive (or you could start it up and go through the gears once every week or so).

    TH400 drainback

This is common when these trannys sit.

I've heard that the leak is through the o-ring at the dipstick tube. You could try a new o-ring.

Otherwise Truzi is right. Start it up once a monthe and shift it though the gears.

Thanks guys.I agree that a car in storage should be started and run through the gears.I am having this purge happen though while the car is not "stored".So is my friend Bill and another acquaintance. My car has been out since Spring at least weekly-and still is.I remember putting in fluid a few months back and there was no leak at that o-ring site. This was after the next to last pukathon.
    The joys of old cars!

Thanks Pete.Tranny was out about 3 years ago and the vent you refer to was definitely there and appeared to be not plugged.I think I will plug the output "pinhole" sometime this winter.

    puking tranny

    Hi Rod:

Mine did the same thing after sitting for a while. The fluid was definetly comming from the weep hole in the driveshaft yoke and this should not be plugged. Serge from Autoprital recommended dropping the fluid level a bit to handle the drain back. I did this but I have a deep pan so there is plenty of volumn, no leaks. Another option is to have the rear of the car higher to handle the increased level. Maybe this is a Canadian issue?

    Hi Glen,
How the heck are you? Good to see you on the board. The deep pan is a good idea so long as some monkey doesn't fill the tranny "to the top" during a service visit!!
Hard to say whether it's a Canadian problem-I think it's more old age(both the car and me)!!!
Give me a call when you get back to N.B. I am working long hours right now but it should end in two weeks.
