I've been looking over some intakes, and I'm just curious, what would be the better choice? Two 4bbl or Three 2bbl? As it is right now, its only got one 2bbl...and in my opinion...its just NOT ENOUGH!!!!!

Oh, and its going on 401 in a '62

Dual quads if you can swing them along with the factory alum valve covers. There are a few pics around on the board.

Well, Just what is it that You want to do with the engine????? do you want ''go'' or just ''looks'' or both? A super cat set up is mighty expensive just for looks, and to do it right you need a hot cam in the engine to support 2-4's. With 3-2's you could run on the center one only and just look fast. Or again with a hot cam and progressive linkage you can go fast.
I prefer the simplisity of a single big carb and the fact that it dont look like it is that fast. Plus a lot lower cost.
    When it comes to a carb set up you can spend a ton of money and make a bunch of mistakes real quick. Be very carefull. there are a lot of things to consider;
    1. initial cost.
    2. ease of maintence.
    3.cost of maintence.
    A. When it comes time to rebuild carb are there 2 kits to buy or 3 kits or just 1.
    4. Linkage, progressive for 3-2's or 2-4's or just one carb linkage.
    5. cost of air cleaner elements and the air cleaner assembly its self.
    6. fuel pump up grade.
    7. cost of fuel.
Now I said all that not to discourage you but to help you make good choices so you will be happy with the results.
It is a real pleasure to see a gal that likes to build cars. I still have fond memories of the little blonde that i went to school with that raced a 65 ford with a 427 and 2-4's.

Lol, wait till you price the dual quad (2X4) stuff. The Nailhead guys could give you an idea better than me :)

    BUICKRAT Got any treats?

Edelbrock used to make an intake for those that took 6 2bbl stromberg 97's. It was the trickest looking thing you ever saw. :eek2:

    Oh, I already have!lol.

I have three 2's on my flathead already, so I was thinking about going with the same on the nailhead. Cost and maintenance arn't a big deal....and the thing already goes through gas like crazy...so that I'm used to as well...hahaha. Just wondering though, is there anything that I should by in addition. I know a cam was already suggested, but is there anything else? I don't want to damage anything.

Hell yeah they are! Hence why I insisted that I have them for my Model A. I think they fill up that space nicely, look impressive, etc. lol...I'm just biased....lol!

When you want to play dress-up the Nailhead is hard to beat. The polished stainless bolts look even better in person.

    MissHRQ,

I agree. The dual quad will yield more a/f and be a little less tricky to maintain, since you're dealing with one less carb.
...plus Buick actually made an intake for that engine.

    ...but since you've only got a 2-bbl, what's wrong with a single 4-bbl?
MUCH easier to maintain and you'll still pick up oodles of power.

BTW, went to your MySpace page.
Pretty cool. I think I may have played with a couple of people on your song list MANY years ago.
Check out an 80's band called "The Long Ryders".
They were pretty cool and I think you might like them. One of my all-time faves.
I can email you "Lights of Downtown", if you wanna hear what they sound(ed) like.
