Two part question...

    Okay,

I have a '72 Riviera, with the usual (common) 2.93:1 rear end in it. On Craigslist, there's a guy selling some barely/lightly used 3.23:1 gears, that likely were for a 68/69-72 Special/Skylark/GS.

First Question: How can I tell if they're "right"? I don't mean numerically, but how can I tell they'll fit? More importantly, would they fit my Riv?

Second Question: Will the 3.23 fit in the same place as the 2.93?

Third Question: Can I take these 3:23's, and add the Posi Unit later, should I happen upon one, or am I doomed forever to one-leggin' it down the road until I luck upon a 73 Buick big car 3.23 posi?

Much input is welcome, and appreciated!

Bad news on both questions...those two cars have nothing interchangable as far as the carrier & gears go. The Riv has a big 9 3/8" ring gear diameter that does have some commonality among the big cars, though. Here's some more detail:
