I have a recently purchased ‘68 GS-400 convertible that didn’t come with a boot, so I’m looking into buying an after market one. One style (early) notes that there are plastic clips sewn into the boot that slide under the chrome trim. The 2nd style uses individual stainless clips that I need to purchase separately. How do I tell which style my car needs, or will either one work? Thanks in advance to all for your help!
Rick The ‘68 GS convertible I had did not have any clips on the boot. It had a stiff plastic strip that slid under the stainless molding. I believe all ‘68 thru ‘72 are this way. If you are finding boots with clips they are incorrect. Duke
My 68 was built in late 67 and takes the clips. Early 68 took clips and later 68 has plastic strip. More info here https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/early-vs-late-68-gs-convertible-boot.379047/ I bought my clip one from Legendary Interiors. If you need a boot for later 68 build that has the plastic that slides under the chrome, I have one that I need to get rid of. It’s brand new white one and was purchased from Year One about 3 years ago. It’s this one: https://www.yearone.com/Product/196...970-1971-1972-buick-skylark-gs-parts/tba68m37
My 68 GS was built April 1968 and I have the original boot dated January 68. I have an aftermarket boot I purchased 15 years ago that I don't need and has a little wear. My original boot with the 1 68 stamp (Jan 1968). The "GS" is coincidental and is the manufacturers initials, not "Buick GS". These are the clips on the original boot. This is the slide on the aftermarket boot.
I’m wondering if I have the correct clips on my Legendary Interiors one I recently bought. These look different than your clips and were a really tight fit. Never put one on completely yet so don’t know how it’s supposed to work.
My originals snap fit really tight, I cringe each time thinking its damaging the trim. Over 25 years I have only put the boot on maybe 10 times.
