Hi Guys: I will be painting my hood soon as cowl induction unit is finished. Would it look stupid to have the underside of hood the same as the body color???????????? If I recall my 56 Ford was Corvette white as well as the under side of hood.Of course, this was in 1958. I could be mistaken. Please send some pics of painted hood unders Thanks.Kenny
I believe my hood was flat black on the underside from the factory. the first rendition of the GS hood was painted body color. the second time around I coated it with truck bed liner. I like the bed liner, low gloss black better.
my hood is flat black underside. I may not like a red under hood. like to see some actual pics of a red car with red under hood Thanks for the info. ps Bought a new 63 galaxie 500 2dr ht w/406 tri carbs, red In color and under hood was also red.Miss that car but not the ex that won it in court. Kenny
I would think it would contrast with the underwood black. That is unless everything under the hood is painted red as well,(like AMC or Mopar did and painted everything body color)
Kenny, Paint it as the General did it.....the Red is just too much, especially on a Buick....Red engine too.
Agree please don't paint anything under the hood body color , hot rod black from SEM works well and is really durable plus its very repeatable if you need to replace a part later on and looks very close to OE in sheen
Think a few body color items under the hood are perfect for contrast. Just dont go way overboard. My rad top support and air cleaner are body color and never heard anything negative about it(maybe they were just being nice?)
Some early cars built in Canada had firewall painted body color, unsure about later years. When I did up my '66 Special, I painted firewall body color even tho it was originally black. Figured it would be easy to spray-can black if I wanted it more original. I like the look. Brightens up the engine compartment and just looks more detailed. My red '66 GS was done in the correct blacks... Here's pics of both:
Sikkens Rally black is the best way to duplicate what the factory looked like. A lot of concourse show car's have it on . Expensive But very rewarding
had my '72 done about 2 years ago, went with satin black, looks original, seriously thought about body colour, seen many done that way before and they look great too but I think black is the way to go
