What's the correct part number for the upper hose for the 69 GS with 400?

The one I got from Advance doesn't have the correct S bend in it to get it into the cradle of the support hook which mounts to the fan shroud.

So in essence the hose it right up against the shroud almost instead of being in front of it.

Ken, if this one looks like what you are after, I can check the number a little later. I think I trimmed this one a bit on one end or the other so you could probably do the same to pull it a little closer to the shroud and get it on your clamp.

    Let me know.

man, dan, that was lightnin' fast! you either have x-ray vision or you work for Gates.

Correct answer, Gates 20980, and you could take off as much as you might need to to get it on your bracket.

Hey, while I'm at it Dewey, What wires are you using? The ones I got are too short from the passenger side rear cylinder (#8?) and I cannot route it properly. Yours look great in your picture.

Also, does having a 4 row radiator effect where the upper hose is with respect to the support hook? My hose seems to be too close to my shroud. In other words, not out in front of the shroud far enough to rest in the hook. (I don't even have the support hook yet, I'm just eye balling it going by the mounting holes in the shroud.)

Thanks, Ken. Those are the MSD 31373 BBC wires as recommended elsewhere on the board. I like 'em too! I'll get a picture up a little later with the loom doohickies on there. I'm working on first restart after spun bearing but should be good in a few minutes...

I don't know about the 4 row radiator, if it sits deeper than stock as mine is standard, but with the Gates hose I have, I think you have plenty of room to trim it a bit at either end to make it sit just right.

wireless internet in the garage! whodathunkit?

Thanks Dewey. Where did you obtain the wires? From a local parts store?

The hose i have has a part number of 1385523. It says "Gates" on it and has an arrow pointing to the radiator. I think this may be an original hose. Mine fits perfectly under the ram air and clears the fan. I crossed this over to the current Gates number of 20980. That hose looks nothing like the original. And the fit stinks!

In looking at my parts book.....

1385523 crosses over to a 69-70 50-60-80-9000 series. Hmmm....69-70 Riviera. Fits great though  .The only other listing I see that comes close is 1243010 which fits 72-73 all 455. That one crosses over to a Gates 20869. Another listing is 1386849 71-72 3437-67 ( 350 and 455??), but I cant come up with a crossover in Gates.

Didnt mean to throw a monkey wrench in the works!

i will say that while selling gates hoses for the last 8 years, they are very into making hoses kinda close so they will fit multiple apps. most of the time there willl be an a, b and sometimes even c on the hose that the catalog will tell you to cut at to fit your app, and even then the dont always fit.dan

So Dan, what would be your recommendation for this application then?

There must be some numbers nuts out there that know the "correct" part number or replacement part number. In other words, something "available" through normal parts store channels, not some obscure NOS source.

I use the Gates #20980 also, and it fits just fine on my 70' GS Stage 1. I did trim it a touch. I will try to post a picture later. Dan, do you work for Gates? Do you know Rico Palmisano?
    Regards, John.
