I just might be getting a 81 regal with a bad V6. I just want it to be a daily driver, nothing fancy. I was thinking of sticking in a stock 76 455 but then I got wondering if going with a 350 would be a easier way to go. Is a 350 pretty much a bolt in as far as mounts go? Will all the brackets also fit for power steering and air and such stuff? Tom
im doing one of each right now, let me tell you putting the 350 in is going a hell of alot easier then the 455. my 455 has made me pull my hair out a few times, i havnt got down to all the brackets and such on the 350 car, but mounting is a snap.dan
The brackets will fit fine. But depending on year of engines you may hafta get some standard bolts instead of metric to hook the bracketry to the engine. The V-6 Power steering/smog pump bracketry make getting to the distributor bolt a real pain. You might wanna modify them a little. It'll be obvious what needs done. Good luck guys!
Once the motor is in (either 455 or 350) think about how the exhaust is going to be routed. You'll have to modify the crossmember or replace it with a purpose built aftermarket one. The fan shroud will also have to be shortened or replaced. After I busted my shroud one too many times I finally went to the junk yard and picked up one from a late 70s Pontiac GranPrix. That should be enough info to get you started. We're hear when you get stuck so post your progress.
350 engine i put a 350 in my 83 years ago and recently a 350 in a 79 regal. i used poly turbo v6 mounts as the v6 ones have alot of stretch with the 350 and 350 mounts on my car put valvecover into my ac box used a olds v8 fan shroud and rad holddown at first the went to elctric fans car with 3.42s ran 14.56 at great lakes drag.not bad for a mostly stock engine and no posi or slicks.v6 pulleys fit just need longer belts. andy :TU:
