Someting went half wrong with the cruise control unit, so they decided to throw in another one.... :bglasses:

Looks like a small block early 80's Chevy/Poncho/Olds engine to me, ignition is at the rear and plastic master cylinder, an engine diagnostic plug-in at the inner wing.

well its night time right now so i cant get anymore pics just yet. But its a 1982 buick electra park avenue with a 307 4 barrel. I got if for next to nothing and im trying to fix it up. From what i have read the cruse control goes bad on this year. I also have this pic that i think is part of the cruse control. There is a simaler part I do believe that attaches to the throtal linkage on a 1985 olds dellta.

Wouldn't cruise control be on the intake manifold, My guess would be winshield washer, follow the rubber hose and see where it goes, it appears that one of them goes to a plastic tank right behind the units. Don't worry about the questions, noone was born knowing all this stuff.

That;'s the cruise control servo, I think that's the term for it.:puzzled:

Not sure why someone would piggy back two of them like that. It makes no sense.

The 307 is an Oldsmobile engine.

they installed one and left the other in there...or maybe for test purpose... :Do No:

the 2nd pic with the chainy thing and diaphram ..that unit I believe is mounted off the exhaust manifold....or maybe even intake manifold....and its an olds motor..

Maybe the original unit (speed transducer) had some sort of malfunction, resulting in no speedometer reading ?

The cable from the transmission goes into the unit, and another cable goes out to the speedometer.

So, to get the speedometer working again, they figured it was easier to mount another unit (that wasn't working either, but was fine for telling speed) to the inner wing, instead of getting a transmission/speedometer cable for a car without cruise control ?

Man, I could write a book about why, why, why and maybe.... :Dou:

    Questions, questions............. :Do No:

By the way can you help me with some other questions. 1 What do i do with the two cruse controle things just hook all the hoses to one. 2 some one has clipped what i think is the palotion control system up will that rob it of horse power?

Are the speedometer cables attached to the newer unit ?
Do you have speedometer reading at al ?

If so, remove the unit that's mounted to the inner wing, and mount the other one in place.

Connect all the hoses and wiring in the same way to the second unit, and see if you have power delivered to the unit.

Attach a test light to the wiring that you moved to the second unit and ground it.
Ignition on, and press the cruise control button, check if the light will come on when you push the button.

When this is all working, you can start connecting the vacuum unit set-up to the carburator.

i know i'm late to this but dosen't it look like a windshield washer heater unit? to make de-icing your windshield take less time.

First figure out on the car what's connected to what and try to get rid of at least one unit..

I think I have some schedules for 80's cruise control set-ups that I can scan and post here.

Some models had the vacuum servo unit (that controls throttle position) on the inner wing, others on the intake manifold.

Your car already has the resume function on the cruise control/turn signal lever, right ?

I think I solved a bit of the mystery: the second unit doesn't have the resume function solenoid, maybe that's why it was never connected any further except for the speedometer/transmission cable.

The red arrow is pointing at the resume solenoid, you can see that this part is missing from the second unit.

Thank you very much bad boattail i just want to quick repost 1 question. Is this part of the palotion control system and it being clipped off the way it is robbing me of horse power? Neither end is sealed very well.

What's late ? It's 2.33 AM the next morning here in the Netherlands.... :bglasses:

That broken bit seems to be part of the AIR system, don't worry about that all too much.

In your last photo, I was able to see that what I was thinking, was right:

The red arrow points at the cable that runs to the speedometer.
The blue arrow points at the cable that runs to the transmission.

At the original unit, still mounted to the inner wing, you can now clearly see that the cables are missing.

I tend to disagree with the last half of this sentence. It was stated that it wasn't plugged off very well. Hot exhaust leaking out + lots of brittle rubber and plastic = bad things happening that will need a fire extinguisher
