pull the oil cap off when its running and see if it has vacuum on it. if not get a can of ether and spray it around all vacuum connections if you cant find a vacuum leak then plug all vacuum ports even pcv trans and dist and see what happens. sounds like a vacuum leak to me. get a vacuum guage and see how much your pulling at idle. what cam do you have. explain to me your build ...

The motor has never been open its all original bought it with 34,000 miles an now there is about 36,000 on it. Im going to plug all the vacuums up today an see where it take me.I thought it could have been the ported vacuum switch, so i plug it off still runs fine in park but when i got to reverse or drive it acts as if it wants to die, the motor goes into convulsions

    Gary,
Without you doing some diagnosing, there is no way to know exactly what is going on. It can be a lot of things. What you are doing is throwing out a few symptoms and asking for an answer to your problems. If you suspect a vacuum leak, buy a gauge (they are cheap), and measure the engine vacuum. When it is acting up, work the throttle back and forth (with the engine off) and check the accelerator pump volume. Pul a plug and see if they are fouled. Is the engine running hot? Could be vapor lock. Might be a sticky float in the carburetor. Might be weak fuel pump. Or porous rubber fuel lines. Lots of things to check. This board is a great tool, but we aren't all knowing of every problem. You have to narrow things down, and give as much information as possible.

Bent valve was the problem, back to running strong.
