Thank you to all the men and women who served and sacrificed for our freedoms. Our lives are significantly better than they would have been without those sacrifices and services.
Have you listened to the song "The Man" by John Rich. It really makes you think about what people have suffered through for us all to live in a free country. Every time I see a person wearing a cap with a served in "----" I thank them for their services. There are not many services members left that served in WWII. I have met some and other that have served and lived through horrific times and situations. It saddens me to see what is currently going on in the world with the conflict and unrest and I pray for peace every day so others do not have to experience the horrors of War. Weather in war or times of peace our service members offer themselves in protection of us all.

This is a great reminder to NOT forget WWII and other related Wars & conflicts the U.S. has fought in and continues to fight for freedom & protect democracies and fight against Terrorist organizations across the World. I'm a Vietnan era Veteran, also served in Desert Strom. My father fought in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam (82sd Airborne). My father-in-law was in WWII, B-24 Bombers, flew Missions into Germany, France, Italy, Czechoslovakia, and Ploesti, Romania. Ploesti oil fields were the most heavily fortified against U.S. Bomber Missions in WWII. Thank you brothers. Appreciate your sacrifices & Service. VET (Navy)
Tom, you when over the time limit to stay in country, did you get extend? Hope you made it back in one piece. Have a great Veterans Day. One of my best friends died from being drenched in Agent Orange. He had a miserable death. He was a great guy; I miss him a lot. He was in LRRP's (Army's Long-range reconnaissance patrol). FYI: So, all will know what LRRP's is. Developed in South Vietnam, which he defined as “a specially trained unit organized and equipped for the special purpose of functioning as an information gathering agency responsive to the intelligence requirements of the tactical commander. A small, well-armed reconnaissance team that patrols deep in enemy-held territory. VET (Navy)
The same year I joined the Navy (1968), my father was the Intel officer for the 82nd Airborne at the DMZ. He was 53 years old and had already fought in WWII and Korea. gsfred, thank you brother, stay well and keep those Buick parts coming. LoL. VET (Navy)
Here in Canada, tomorrow is Remembrance Day. This is our version of Veterans Day. We gather to pay respect to all of the brave soldiers who have served, all those who came back, and those still overseas. Those brave submariners still on patrol, or with their ship. I had 2 Grandfathers who served. One in WW1, and one in WW2. I have a brother-in-law who served with the UN in the Middle East in the early 80's. I try to honour those who came back broken, either in body or spirit. I also try to remember and honour those who were left behind as their men left for war . This is a solemn day for all. I am trying to instill a sense of respect for this day in my Grandchildren, but a 4 and 6, it's not there yet. It will be, soon I hope. In the meantime, thank you to all of the presently serving men and women in the armed forces of all the free world. I salute you, and have the utmost respect.
Please understand this with the greatest humility. Do not thank me for my service. I did so because it is the core of my sole and out of appreciation and gratitude that I was able and permitted to serve I did it for all of the people of this nation, it's ideals, it's dream and hopes. I did it for those that serves before me, with me, and those after. I did it for all who lived and benefitted, those who would, and their descendants. I did not do it for me, I but I needed to do it nonetheless. It was a cal I answered. I did not to it for thanks, gratitude, 10% off, parking spaces or anything. I only desire that people live their lives in a manner that honor all who served. Be a good human. Be grateful and understand the gift of freedom that is granted and preserved by those who choose to serve. Thank you. A Grateful American. (My biggest regret is not being able to serve longer ...) Remembrance Day in Australia. I always pause what I'm doing and pay my respects. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.
Thank you all who put it ALL on the line. I have a Great-Grandfather I knew until he passed, he hooked me on the Twizzler candy strips. Haven't kicked to this day. He was 19 and went in...U.S. Army Corporal, 112th Infantry, World War I, France. He brought back many souvenirs and shared stories except those which were difficult. I have a Grandfather I never met. He was born in Germany to Italian parents in 1906. Spoke both languages plus English. Came over in '23, tried the Pennsylvania coal mines and said "not for me" and enlisted in Penna National Guard in '27, focusing on medical...which...got ...him...to D-Day+1 with the 104the Medical Battalion of the 29th Infantry. He furthered, endured, was promoted all during the crush to Berlin. His love for USA was never disputed even though he had Italian parents who raised him in Germany...in fact, he was key to being kind in interrogating necessary people along the way. Came home! Became Burgess (kinda like mayor) of his family town in Ebensburg, PA USA. I never knew him except for family. I have his family and even his voice audio recordings which always brings me closer, though. Found #2 and #4 earlier this year after decades. Photo side not necessary. Devon
I couldn't help but stop at our Bountiful City Veterans Memorial Park today and snap a quick pic. Thanks to all that serve, served, their families and loved ones.
We were honored by being invited to ride with the DD-214 jeep club. Cindy and me have family who have served, protected and fought for the USA in several branches of the military. Spending the day all these folks from all walks of life, observing them and their families is an extremely humbling experience. As I was rolling through the parade, it made me just that much more proud of America and the families who keep it free!
