id like to know what my car really is. the vin on the door match the vin on the dash but i can't seem to get any info. *4k473AZ119852. i just want to know if it is a turbo regal or if someone tried to make it into one. it has no options and i thought the turbo versions were loaded. the only option i can tell is the t-roof, tilt steering. it doesn't look like it ever had a turbo under the hood but i'll bet the v6 that it has isn't original. thanx
I think you may be missing some numbers on that VIN. There should be 17 numbers. If the 8th character is a 7, it's a turbo car.
i have checked and rechecked, the tag on the dash is stamped gm tin. i copied the vin correcty, if there aren't enough numbers, then i'm at a loss for words because while the numbers on the door aren't quite ledgable on the first few, i can see the same amount of digits. 13 and with the star is 14. the car came from a really good friend of mine. i've known him for over 10 years. he kept the thing in his garage for the last 7 years. so i'm confused!?!?
The VIN says the Buick is a : 1980 Regal Sport Coupe with a 231-3 Turbo V6, All turbo cars had a raised hood.
thanks, i wasn't sure if the hood was original because it was sprayed black. but when put the numbers in carfax it tells me there aren't enough. so what might be the issue? is there a problem with the tag?
1980 was the last year for the 13 digit Vin 1981 it went to 17 digit. 4k473AZ119852 4 = Buick K = Regal Sport coupe 47 = 2 dr 3 = 231 Turbo A = 1980 Z = Fremont assmbly plant 119852 = Vehicle ID sequence number Your good to go :TU: David
thanks david. i was a bit worried. but being a tourbo car should i feel bad about putting a 68 430 or mod out a 3.8. this car would have only had at best 180 hp and i was planning on 500+ i want to do this car up and i like both directions. maybe i'll put it to a vote cause i really am torn.
Unless it is a perfect, untouched example of a 80 Turbo Regal leave it original. BUT............the 430 sounds interesting.
That's strange because I looked that VIN # up in the Buick Bugle roster and a Regal VIN # starts out 4AJ47. Why can't I find one with a K?
Because the Buick Bugle Roster shows model numbers not VINs. 4AJ47 = Regal 2dr 4AK47 = Regal Sport Coupe, 2dr 4AM47 = Regal Limited, 2dr :TU:
